  1. Man this is hard. Is there anything that matches the XL2's quality, but is at a lower price? (And thanks for the luck, I need it!)
  2. I actually didn't know there was a Long Island Film Festival until it was postered on a movie theatre I go to, which will be holding the next one. I'm suprised since NOTHING fun happens at the theatre I go to (Glen Cove Cinemas.) It's Sept. 30th, Oct. 1st/2nd. Anyone from this board submitting anyhting/going?
  3. Not totally based on a kid, but "The Ring", the son is shown alot. Also, "Thirteen", in the same genre of "Kids".
  4. Yeah for my next movie I've adressed the light issue in the 'lighting' forum. I'm just hoping the money is well-spent so I don't get the XL2 and am not satisfied. (but I'm not completly sure) what I would like yet.)
  5. 1. I'm shooting on DV. (An XL2) 2. It's a thriller, and a I want a dramatic, sad feel. The bon-fire will (like you said) produce a beautiful light alogn with the pool light which will be on (since the pool is right next to it and is an important part of the movie) btu I was afraid it wouldn't be enough. The info you gave me is good, and yes, we'll have some Duraflame, but the rest will be logs. Now, the oil wrapped in cotton, should I just use it if I don't use Duraflame, or for even better light?
  6. Wait, when you set the camera in 16:9 or 4:3 (I read the XL2 can switch between) does the picture autmatically take on the effect or is it just for a look?
  7. Oops did I say 'Zimmerman'! Hah, I'm so tired, it's 2:06. Silly me. Anyway, I think music rights is a big deal in movies. Alot of DVDs have to change music since they can't get the rights for DVD. And I think that ruins it. Like I read that the original "Real World" had different music than when it aired...well, that kind of ruins the whole atmosphere! And also, isn't 'making your own rendition' risky? I mean, can't there be legal action taken out if it matches the song too closely?
  8. Yeah, I know this guy whos a music teach, brilliant artist. I'lll show him the film and he could def. write a score. But hell, "This Is Going To Hurt" is the music I need for a sequence...it fits so great, I don't know what I would do if I didn't use it. What usually the costs?
  9. So I have to get rights from the publisher. Ok. Then I have to get rights from the Record Label, but in order to do so, I have to pay? Ok. This is going to be hard. One of them is from a movie soundtrack, and well...I'll do my best. Edit: I've decided I will do an original score, except fro one song. It is called "This Is Going To Hurt", and is from 'The Ring'. I can't think of anything else replacing it, so that i the song I'm going to try and get rights for. Too bad the writer, Hans Zimmerman doesnt have that song listed in ASCAP.
  10. Well...my next movie takes place during the day, but mostly at night, in a backyard. It is a bon-fire party (not a big bon-fire) and a pool. The pool has lights in it, adn the bon-fire will light up, but what is the best way to light up the movie, without it looking fake or amatuer? And so that nightime is clearly seen.
  11. I just finished writing my new movie and I have come across a question I would like for someone to anwser: Obviosly, without music, movies would be horrible. So how can I get rights to music so I can submit them to festivals and such. For instance, one song I would liek to use is an original score from "The Ring". I would I go about getting permission?
  12. Well, I like making movies. I would use the camera for no-budget movies (friends who can act are a good thing. friends who act for free are even better.) or low, low, low budget movies. It all depends on the project. The XL2 was my primary choice, but so many people say different things, I just want to be recommened what has the best quality, and isn't too confusing, and looks good in any kind of lighting. (Or suggestions on what to do with what camera.)
  13. I want to buy a 3CCD camera thats profesional looking and is just great in every department, i.e. video and sound. I want the XL2, but there are other things out there, and I'm just really confused about what to get. Does anyone have any suggestions?
