  1. thanks for all the info everyone, always hard to find similar postings with this stuff.

And as far as capable entry level profesional super 16mm cameras, This one is just as capable as my Sr3 that I sold and even more capable than my aaton a-minima that I also regretfully sold, especially for narrative work. Get some good optics and a good scan and there is virtually no difference in the end product. This was my first real camera I bought way back in film school, learned shooting film on this thing.

Also found the ticket of repairs and upgrade from Andree Martin/AM cameras and can share with any prospective buyers. Almost 4k worth of work went into it a year ago to get it into top operating condition.

Lastly here is a registation test we did, please excuse the dusty neg and cheap scan, we wanted to keep costs down

  3. Thanks Mark!

yeah I have come across the entire cart situation for the NAC camera, have no idea how i would transfer that to digital, and not really trying to spend 1000$ to experiment. Ideally I would love to find a rental house that has been around forever that still has something of the sort in the back somewhere. Doesnt need to be VHS, just looking for a stylized early slowmo technology for an ultra stylized commercial.

Does anyone know where these used to be rented out from?

  4. Hey all not sure where to post this but I have a commercial end of month and the director is looking to shoot with some pretty hard to find gear. I am based in LA so if anyone knows where I could find some of this stuff it would be super helpful.

First up is a high speed VHS or tube camera. I found one on ebay that shoots 1000fps to vhs here. Does anyone know if I could rent this or something similar anywhere? Or does anyone have some footage of something shot in a similar format? really hard to find info on it

second would be a photosonics highspeed 16mm camera, preferable with a PL mount, having a hard time finding a rental in LA. something like this

Also shooting vista vision, if anyone knows of a nikon mounted one availabe in LA please let me know, I found one at Geofilm thats PV mount that could work

Lastly any guess on what the shot this music video on?

    Appreciate the help!

  5. I have lived in Northeast LA for 8 years and absolutely love it, tons of younger industry people, the best bars and restaurants, more affordable, some great theaters and movie rental places, lots of great parks and outdoors access. We have a house Mt Washington now, great quite residential neighborhood thats is still very close to all the big city amenities, a true hidden gem. Highland park is highly recommended, especially in the hills around Occidental college, it is booming with new bars and restaurants every other week is feels like, Eaglerock is lovely and a little more quite, South Pasadena is is an idilic 1920s americana suburb, Los Feliz has some lovely walkable neighborhoods, Echo Park is maybe the most walkable neighborhood in the city and is very hip and bohemian, Silver lake is classic, parts of Pasadena are absolutely beautiful, beechwood canyon is a gem of a residential neighborhood. Hope this helps!

Doesn't exist sadly. Penelope's are unobtanium and SL MK2's in 2 perf don't exist at all. They were all updated Arricam movements and impossible to find. Looking at $80k at this point for a 2 perf SL MKII easily.

Yeah thanks for the info Tyler, you are probably not wrong about the 2 perf SL price, we got some money to spend though. It has been really hard even to rent 2 perf cameras in LA recently so we are willing to be patient for the right package, needs to be something modern to be able to sell through to productions

    Thanks David!

Yes we got lots of cameras! Just re-built a Super America MKII that we sold, runs great!

AM Camera dot com! Check the "sales" area and if you want something, hit me up. I'm helping relieve some of the pressure on Andree by negotiating deals.

I know how busy Andree is, he has one of my other cameras now..

And thanks, That SL mk2 looks nice! but I think we are going to hold out a little longer looking for something in 2 perf now preferably.

So if anyone has a lead on a Penelope or a 2 perf LT or SL mk2 let me know!

    Thanks!

A year or two ago I believe I saw a few early XTR and late LTR packages sell for around $5k. Or in some cases less.

There was a very basic XTR Prod package I think on LA craigslist for around $9k or $10k last year.

I think it's more an issue of short supply rather than great demand. No one is in a rush to sell because it would be difficult to find another package down the line. So I think there's artificially low supply and it's kind of self-fulfilling. But at least to me that sounds like a reasonable price for an LTR package today. Maybe a bit more than that – but not much.

If you want a K3 that was modified for S16 I have one that is in slightly dodgy condition that I'd let go of for next to nothing... and I know LA is full of rental S16 packages.

And if anyone has an Aaton mount to Nikon mount adapter btw I'd be interested.... in fact I would trade the K3 for it.

I am 90% sure I have that adaptor, I would make that trade. I also have an Aaton to arri b mount I would throw in for free

They are quite rare. A good friend of mine just picked one up with a nice set of lenses and surf housing. He is also looking into video tap options. I will ask if he will demo for you next time you are in NYC or if he is down to rent or sell at some point.

I might actually take you up on that, been trying to get ahold of one of these for awhile

On early cameras, the mirror shaft gear is retained by a 1.5mm pin. On later caemras it is held by a screw. Only full disassembly will reveal the problem. Mirror could be unstable on other end of shaft which is more difficult to address.

Charles are you in Seattle? The camera is currently up there. If you are willing I could bring the camera for you to take a look at
