Could bigger actually be better? A lot of brands seem to be making smaller fixtures with brighter outputs but could that potentially be a reason to stick with classic Arri Fresnel, over the fact they are a larger source?

Okay yeah, good point, I'm surprised that fixture you used as an example is actually larger and bulkier than a classic bulb fixture, as a lot of other LED brands like Aputure do actually come in much smaller fixtures like the 300d which is close to the output of a 2k. Maybe it's just an Arri thing

Okay, in short what I've heard is they're popular because they're reliable, paid for, they have a good focusing range and colour spectrum and they don't deteriorate

So basically everything most high end LED fixtures can do like Sky Panels and digital sputnik except when it comes to accurately keeping count of power consumption, which I can't imagine is too big of a trade off in comparison to what you get with LED. I'm still lost on why those pros weigh out the pros of LED fixtures. Maybe i'm missing something..

Is there any major characteristic about them that will keep them from dying off decades from now?

With all the latest LED lighting innovations released since 2010, what makes classic Arri fresnel fixtures still such a popular choice today?

I plan on purchasing a light meter soon, just wanted to hear based on experience would be the better model to buy for reliability, efficiency and over all control on set.

I mean the benefits you're getting out of the Aputure 300d is pretty worth it. 2K tungsten's Fresnel are that expensive for a reason, first, the size of them, meaning the material costs and the fact they're not LED. I gotta say almost every pro ways out the cons of choosing the Aputure 300d over a 2k tungsten Fresnel.

- You don't need to purchase a generator just to take it outside

- It's almost twice the size so it's easier to transport

- You can easily attach accessories to it

- It doesn't get any where near as hot as a real 2k

- It's remote controlled

- It's like half the price.

You're really comparing those pros to the simply con that it's cheaper. I gotta say with my experience with aperture in particular, you get more for what you pay for.

Rosco 74 or 72 will be the gels you're looking for, 74 is the closest to moonlight while 72 is a colder blue for a brighter moonlight look

You'd be better off to not bounce it, as if you're using gels, the colors will not be as strong for the party vibe. You definitely want to keep it very flood and ambient though. Really depends what lights and grip you're using.

Purple and yellow lighting gives a fantastic vibe for something like a cocktail party, Not too intense like RGB flashing strobe lights. Although purple and yellow are complementary colors there not as overused as most. Use the yellow for skin tones and purple for background and or back light on the subjects. Keep the yellows soft, almost seamless on the skin.

Yeah I don't think it was day for night either, Skin tones are too clean for that,

If this is actually a set, it is the most realistic looking set I've seen. to get full size looking trees on a set would be almost unbelievable

Yeah that's a really interesting put, a large blimp light, It definitely feels like one large single source from above, as I feel having several 20x20 frames may mess a little with shadow direction unless they used bounce light, which I also doubt.

An upcoming music video is in the process of budgeting, the script requires mostly night scenes, euthanizing moonlight. The main question I have is:

How on earth are scenes like this lit? perfectly even lit scenes like this. I understand you'd need a big source most likely through a 12ft diffusion frame but this is a ridiculous amount of light for this forest scene, which also confuses me because the trees are still silhouetted as if the source was directional but yet everything is so soft. I don't understand how such a large set can be lit so softly yet with so much contrast. Does anyone have any theories to how this lighting setup was achieved in a floor plan?

Of course I'm not setting this as a goal for this project, nothing of that scale but I find it incredibly interesting non the less.

We're needing a wireless follow focus system that has a transmitter a weight under 2.5kg to keep our cheaper gimbal balanced. We are interested in renting the DJI wireless follow focus system but have no experience of how to set it up. Is it possible to use this system with out the DJi Ronin or an expensive cinema camera? We are using an A7sii, Xeen 50mm.

We couldn't find any information of how this setup works, can it work on it's own or does it need power from the Ronin or camera?

I have a music video shoot coming up soon, and this is my first experience using a cine lens. We are using a gimbal system, renting an A7sii and a Xeen 50mm cine lens. What we forgot is that cinema lenses are manual only, so from what I found online, does that mean no electronic wireless focus systems will work for example the Aputure DEC wireless adopter? We don't have the budget to afford the standard $1k to $2k remote motor wireless follow focus systems.

Is everything I've said so far actually correct and are we really stuck with no way to keep our shots in focus?

Okay, the main light source is not too spotty so I'm not to concerned on dealing with hard edges but i'll definitely take 250 into consideration.

Yeah I definitely took that into consideration. I really was looking for a popular in between balance so thanks for the suggestions I'll most likely just purchase the two and see what works.

What would give the nicest result for diffusing a 1k LED panel through a 4x4 frame? What's the best matthews or rosco roll that is the best mix for retaining light power, a wide and even spread, whilst of course following the essentials of softening shadows?

I like the idea of the rags, What brand in particular make the 4x4 rags and would you recommend it as a clean diffusion option over other products, because if it has disbenefits in quality than I'd like to know.

No, I wasn't even aware of that until now? But I'd assume these are rolls of fabric that has to be clamped onto the frame, or is there a solution in which actually allows the material to physically "wrap" snug around the frame without clamps?

Besides, Rosco roll on diffusion gels, what brand of fabric can perfectly wrap around my Matthews 4x4 square tubing diffusion frame. I've been looking for weeks, would hate to have wasted my money on this pointless frame. Felt like I was a good brand, but after seeing other brands like Westcott, I'm very unsatisfied with how annoying it is to deal with this frame, especially if there is no fabric brand that can fit snug around it.
