  1. I don’t mean to offend anyone or disrespect the legacy of Bolex, but I can’t seem to grasp why it is such a preferred camera over the Beaulieu r16. For one, the r16 doesn’t use a bogus prism that requires special lenses that are ridiculously priced. It also has a brighter viewfinder, is lighter, and can do longer takes without having to attach a bulky and awkward motor. Am I missing something here? Being a bolex owner myself, I am feeling more and more inclined to make the switch to a Beaulieu. I know the Bolex is spring driven, but that can’t be the only selling point. Perhaps someone could shed a bit more light on this who has more experience with an R16?
  2. Added to list: -Bolex EM motor with charger, New battery, and power cable - $300 + shipping
  3. Looking to buy a Beaulieu R16 I’m good working order (preferably already serviced). Ideally I’d love to have a working battery & charger with the kit. Lens is a plus! thanks!
  4. Hey everyone, I still have the following items for sale: -Bolex Rex o Fader - $60 + shipping -Lomo UPB-1A developing tank with 400ft of heavily expired 7240 and 400ft of heavily expired 7292 - $100 + shipping (just an FYI the lomo tank has some slight issues with the spoked reel, it won’t screw into the spiral properly. Everything else works great for 16mm & Super 8. Light tight) -Bolex Surefire Hand grip with 7 inch cable release - $25 + shipping PM me if interested. -Derick
  5. Thanks everyone, I appreciate the feedback. I cleaned the prism and all of my lenses as best as I could. Hopefully my next batch of film comes out fine now.
  6. I double checked, and no I don't think its from the scan. The reason is that the same spots appear in the same location on some B&W film that was scanned on a different scanner altogether.
  7. For some reason my image doesn’t appear to be embedding in my posts. Hopefully it shows up below:
  8. Sure thing Mark, unfortunately I have to squash the file down to JPEG. Here you are: Without circles
  9. Hey Mark, Sorry, I should have included a frame. I've attacked a Tiff below...I darkened the image with a cruddy grade to show what i'm talking about. They are faint and very soft. As i said before, its only in this particular shot because I was closed down, but it was also in a previous reel as well. I have since cleaned off my prism, although I didnt see anything out of the ordinary. This is probably a farfetched question, but there's no way debris could get etched into the prism glass, right? Also, just a note...I shoot a lot of expired stock....I'm wondering if it might have been flakes of emulsion that chipped off and flew onto the prism while the camera was running?
  10. Thanks Dom, I appreciate the information. I checked my prism again tonight and didn’t see anything out of the ordinary, but gave it a cleanings anyways. I inspected all of my lenses with a lighted loupe and all of them have some form of debris inside, but I have never had this issue with my lenses stopped down to f/22 before. the only thing I could think of that may have caused it was that I shot a music video in a warehouse a few months back, maybe dust or something got into the film chamber when I changed reels (I did not have a dark bag) and kicked up behind the prism or perhaps it got on the prism when using the turret to swap lenses. I did notice it a bit on that footage when shooting a bright sky, and noticed the same on my recent footage shooting a similar scene. The spots are in the same exact place on both batches. assuming it is the prism, I suppose I should give it a quick look each time I load.
  11. Thanks Bruce, do you have any tips on how to clean the bolex prism without damaging it? I checked it out and it seemed to be clean, but I could have missed something. also, the specs inside of my Switar don’t appear to be dust, it definitely looks like a liquid of some sort.
  12. Hey everyone, I recently got some scans back and they look great, but on one shot in particular I noticed an issue with dark circles all throughout the images. I was wondering if this is a lens issue or an issue with my bolex prism? The lens was stopped down to f/22 and I also closed the shutter down an extra stop since these were shots of a bright sky. I have also noticed this issue on previous scans. I did notice in my one Switar lens that there are a bunch of little droplets of what appear to be grease or liquid, could this cause such an issue? The spots are soft, almost identical to sensor dust spots on a digital camera, but they are much larger in diameter. Thank you in advance. -Derick

  15. Hey everyone, I wanted to see if anyone had any tips on shooting ESTAR based film in a bolex (or similar) camera? From my understanding, polyester film is long pitched as far as perforations go and it is also a very strong base. I know some of you would not recommend using it in camera, but I have seen it done. I wanted to ask if there was a specific way I should load the camera or if I could simply autoload as normal? I ask because i've been told that if the camera jams, polyester film could potentially break my camera which would mean repairs 😥. Also, whats a good recommended ASA to rate both 3383 & 3378? Thanks in advance!
  16. Hey everyone, I havent posted in some time, but I wanted to ask a few questions about incident readings. Up until now i've been using light meter apps for my Iphone in reflected mode with pretty decent results, but I was recently given a Sekonic incident meter. I'd love to use this because from my understanding, incident readings are more precise, but the main thing is that I mostly shoot street/docu & landscapes. How would I go about taking an incident reading if I cant get close to my subject? Also, when compared to the readings my reflected meter (phone app) gives me, my incident readings seem very "overexposed"....By like 2 sometimes 3 stops over, Is this normal? I've compared the sekonic with other handheld meters and it seems to match. Thanks in advance!
  17. Hey, sorry everyone this camera has been sold. I am selling an Angeniuex 12-120 type C for Bolex Rx though if anyone is interested.
  18. Hey everyone, I'm selling my Angenieux 12-120 type C for Bolex RX lens to anyone whose interested. I'm asking for $600 + shipping. Message me and we could go from there.
  19. Thanks a ton, Dom! What would you say is the widest I could go at infinity without vignetting? I do a lot of landscapes, so this is why I ask. Thanks!! -Derick
  20. Hey all, I was wondering if anyone could tell me the coverage of an Angenieux 12-120. Will this lens cover super 16 at all? Thanks, Derick
  21. Ahh wonderful! Thank you so much for the insight, Martin. Its very much appreciated. I'm fine with the perf markings as long as they don't bleed into my image. Good to know!
  22. Does anyone happen to use the Morse rewind tank? Every roll i process in the thing always ends up having perf marks throughout the whole roll on the perforation side. Has anyone else experienced this? What could be the the cause? -Derick
  23. Hey Paul, When you processed this stock, did your negative have the yellowish base color still? I processed as negative and it seems like it has a yellowish/grey color to the stock. -Derick
