  1. I think that the subject pretty much sums it up. I am looking for a new eyecup as mine is torn on my NIkon R10. I don't really need an exact replacement I might even like a bigger one with a cushion or something. Just any sites that have that kind of stuff would be great. Thanks.
  2. I appreciate the help. I have another question also, How long, in minutes, is a 50' Super 8mm film cartridge?
  3. I live in Nashville, TN and have a Nikon R-10. Now that the holidays are over I want to get out and use the camera I got in early December. I was looking for a place that will sell film and telecine services separately but also together. If there is a place that does telecine really well, let me know. I am looking at only getting a few rolls right now so I can see what condition the camera that I have is in. It seems to work but I want to test it and learn it before I start shooting a lot. My question is what are some good places that sell 8mm film stock and telecine services? They don't have to be close to Nashville, but it would be nice to find a place in Atlanta or St. Louis, but I would rather find quality and spend a little more on shipping.
  4. I just got my R10 and am wondering if it is better to use the internal meter or an external meter. I have a Sekonic 508 for my still photography and it can handle 18, 24, and 54 fps metering. Also, how do I know if the automatic metering is working. I have yet to buy film to test the camera, but I have played around with it and I have not noticed that it is reading the light changes. Does the needle only register light changes when film is loaded? What is the best way to do that? One more thing, what tests should I run with what type of film as a 1st cart test run? I appreciate all the help I have received in these forums lately.

  6. There is a God and he loves me. That is what it was. It was in macro setting. Once I adjusted it, it worked fine. Thanks for the help. I am now not have a stroke.
  7. Yeah, I checked that and at the best focus it is still blurry when pulled all the way out.
  8. I just bought a Nikon R10 on eBay and had a question about it. I am noticing that the focus seems to be off. I can zoom in and focus perfectly but once zoomed all the way out the focus goes soft. I isn't completely blurry but out of focus enough that it makes me a little concerned if there is something wrong with it. Any ideas?
  9. I appreciate all the advice I have gotten. I did just buy a Nikon R10 on eBay, for $235 by a reputable dealer. I should have clarified when I said Cost Effective. I don't mind spending money for good work. Cost effective to me is more about is the work equal to the money I am paying. I looked around and have found a few places to send a few test rolls while I get used to the camera. Also, is there a website that sells most, if not all, super 8mm filmstocks for a good price? I would like to buy individual carts at first to test the camera and then would be interested in buying in bulk. Thanks for the help. This forum is the best I have found.
  10. I live in Nashville, TN and am about to buy my first S8mm camera. I am looking into all the costs as I would have to send my film to Atlanta, GA to be developed and telecined. On average how much would film stock, film processing and telecine cost? Is there a way to telecine it myself on the cheap without buying the telecine machine? I apologize for these questions. I am a beginner in the world of S8. Thanks.
  11. I guess my budget is the sky. Obviously I don't want to drop $30,000 on a Super 8 if I can help it. I might as well put that down on a 16mm. I would say that realistically, I would not want to spend more than $2,500 max. I would love to spend less than that, but I am also not scared of spending a little more for a quality product. What are the camera prices of the cameras that you guys mentioned?
  12. I am new to this forum so forgive my ignorance. I collect old 8mm cameras, but have recently seen the value in using them to shoot various film projects. My question is, what is a good all around Super 8mm camera, and what are the general rules for shooting with Super 8mm (i.e. shutter speed, frame rate, color reversal vs. color negative)? I do come from a photography background so I have a Sekonic 508 light meter so I do know some aspects of film but not all. I intend on shooting several rolls before taking on a project with the camera I buy so I can get used to it, but it still helps to go into it with some knowledge. Thanks.
  13. Are Angenieux lenses any good? I know that Zeiss lenses are better ( I have three for my Hasselblad medium format camera) but is Zeiss the only way to go? Also, I don't mind going to $10,000 for a great camera package, but I would prefer to stay in the $5,000 if I can unless a great deal comes along.
  14. How stupid of me. I forgot how much I wanted to spend. Ideally, I would like to spend about $5,000, and I have had the idea of buying the body and renting lenses from a local rental house until I find one that I find that covers a wide area of shooting situations. So about $5,000 but if I find one that is a good one and lenses are in good shape I might want to spend as much as $10,000 but certainly not more than that starting out. I do plan on keeping this camera for a lifetime even if I uprgrade.
  15. I am in the market for a solid beginner 16mm camera and thought you guys might be able to help. I am looking for a camera that is lightweight enough to be hand held, preferably one that I could find a mount for with grips to do hand held shots with. My purpose for getting this camera is so I can begin to learn the 16mm format so I can shoot music videos and documentaries. I would like to get a camera with a nice option of lenses and accessories like matte boxes and follow focus units. I am not looking for a super 16. I have heard that the Bolex SBM is really nice, and I have also heard that eclair and aaton make a solid camera too. I have searched the archive and I have tried to stay clear of the "best of" questions even though mine is in that vein. Hopefully I have provided enough info to start. Thanks.
