  1. I regard to lighting. There are floursecent screw-in lights, that you might used to replace a bulp in a common house lamp. I have been using a 150w (equivalant) flouresent. light inside of an Ikea China Ball, then hanging them off a t-bar lightstand. The results haven't been too bad, I generally find that you need to get the light within about 6 ft of your subject. Nowadays some flourescent lights have a C.R.I. rating which means a Color Rendition Index, apparently the higher the number the better the color. I have read that above a CRI of 90 is okay for decent colors. But I haven't tested it for myself yet. I guess the trick is to NOT mix types of light (eg, tungsten, Filament and flourescents), but I have found that if I light my scenes in zones, that the results are okay (for my at least). When I say "zones" I mean that I light foreground and background objects, with diferent light than my Subject Objects. It seems to give more dimesion to my scenes. I hope this helps a little, I am a total Jimmy Rigger type of guy who likes to make the best of what is on hand. though I must say that I am saving for a decent light kit, because they are easier to set up for me. 2. Yes, it will. And BTW what I said before about $200 for this program being a rip, was WAY OFF MARK. After further study Cinform is a KILLER company and thier people are very cool. But mainly this reason HD Connect is worth $200 is because it works very well in capturing all foortage from the HD100 (though I haven't personally tried the slo- mo yet) and its Cineform Codec is pretty good. BTW, www.dvinfo.net has a hugely active HD/HDV forum that is very well maintained and informative. Viva La HD100!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Chris
  3. B)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Jason B @ Mar 24 2006, 03:27 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec--> Can you use this camera on a fig rig? Not sure haven't tried it; WITHOUT the IDX battery brick the camera is very comfortable and would seem to lend itself well to the Fig Rig, again this is opinion only considering I own the camera and have never used the Fig Rig yet. With the batterys and mattebox and mini-35 with lens does the camera become to big/heavy to do hand held shots? on a steadicam flyer? Yes, I can't imagine this being a comfortable setup especially with the Mini-35. It could probably be done, but you would be working the camera op pretty hard. How well does it operate in low light? I personally don't think it works well in low light. BUY LIGHTS. They don't say "LIGHTS, camera action for nothing." Okay nobody really says that but my point still stands. For instance I work with a lot of bands, in dark little bars. I would not take this camera, shoot in 30p and expect it to produce much visual information without making sure the bar was well lit. Do you think taking the picture out of focus looks unnatural? (I was pulling the image out of focus and noticed that the blur looked somewhat "split" or hard edged instead of soft (maybe its just the factory lens or my brain)) Not really. But When I first got the camera I did a Rack Focus and I saw a blurred division of sorts. I haven't seen it since, but I haven't done any rack focuses since either. Either way it might be a different phenonma(sic) cause what I noticed hard no hard edges. Do you find that because the camera looks more professional that you don't take it out casually because eveyone stares at you? (silly question, I know, but I really like using my camera to shoot random things and always wonder what effect having a setup like this has on amount of usage) No I only take out the camera when someone puts money in my hands. It does look pro though. I am working with larger bands right now, and recently I have only worked with smaller ones. Pulling this camera out as opposed to the Sony competitor, presents a better image. You just look more pro that all I means, and if you are billing someone a lot of money, the at least get the impression on set/location that you were the right man for the job. Which helps. I have heard several different takes on the build of this camera. Do you find the camera feels fragile (due to lens or materials)? or do you think this is a rugged type of camera? I try not to rough house anything that costs me a lot of money. Unless that's how she likes it, but I digress that is a whole other forum altogether. If you were shooting a doc could you recommend this camera for more run and gun/ fly on the wall stuff? I think so, I mean it feels like a news camera for the most part. Just looks a little more compact. But if you add that Mini-35 then maybe not so much. Thanks :)
  4. If you haven't found out already Connect HD seems to be a Capture Utility only. So you can capture footage then import it into whatever windows based video editor, compositor, whatever you want. I think Aspect HD is a little more intricate and tied directly to Premiere as a plug or something. Also I think Aspect HD makes Premiere into a more legitimate HD Editor. But that is knowledge gleened from thier literature not first hand expierience. I have been using the Connect HD demo for the last couple days and it seems really cool as a capture utility. The thing that sucks is that is costs WAY TOO MUCH. I mean, come on $200. Talk about a rip off, as a company they are just asking for your product to get cracked. With JVC pushing this camera hard, and interest peaking, pull the price of the program down and go for some volume sales and market share cause this first thing that runs through my mind is, this isn't much for $200. Point is I am gonna buy Connect HD, it does work well even though it is too expensive for what it really is IMO. CW
  5. BTW, if you haven't done so already, on cineforms site look at ConnectHD its 199.00 I downloaded the demo and it worked really well for capturing and I plan on buying. The footage loaded into AfterEffects which means it is in my native playground and I can do whatever I want to it. I have yet to try to load it into Combustion but I will be trying that tonight. I just got my HD100 earlier this week I am been giddy ever since. cw
