  1. To be frank, I don't, that is until i became a filmmaker myself. I still remember asking myself, why do telemovies not shown in the big screen and are only released straight to tv. But now i appreciate all the effort from art direction till lighting etc in a film.
  2. Great discussion so far. I'm sure experience filmmakers , dps and so on like the people on board may be able to spot the difference from HD and film. But to be frank, non-filmmakers, the general public do not even know or care about it as long as the story is good. When I was a regular movie goer, I don't look at the lighting, framing etc as I have no knowledge on that, which applies to 99% of the cinema goers. I just want to watch an entertaining film. In fact, I have some people coming up and says HD is superior as it is a newer technology. I know this isn't true, but the fact is, the general audience would not know their difference unless they are educated on that. So I do agree that we should aim for the highest production value possible, but this argument is not as important to the general audience.. I have not heard of anyone saying Star Wars should have been shot on film, why didn't they do it by the public in general. Only from filmmakers that this argument arises. So my point is, shoot on whatever you are comfortable with, as our main target audiences are the general public, and they won't know unless both footages are put side by side.
  3. Great information so far. I'll be using the F900 with HD zooms only. I hope it doesn't look like Digibeta. and btw MDO, that's the exact thing the rental house told me. That I should go for the 750 to save cost since i'm not doing any CGIs.
  4. Thanks for the input. Good thing I check with you guys here. Otherwise, I would have been "persuaded" to use the 750 by the rental house. Thanks again!
  5. thanks for the feedback. We intend to do a film transfer. So I guess F900 will have a significant quality improvement over the 750 for such purpose. Correct me if i'm wrong.
  6. Hi, The rental house has suggested that I should take up the F750 instead of F900 as he mentioned that they are the same if I'm going to shoot on 25p. I know the F900 is the camera of choice for a lot of features, but not much has been heard of the F750 compared to the 900. Can anyone tell me what's the difference between them? and if there is a significant quality improvement using the F900? Thanks for any feedback given.
  7. Thanks for the reply. We always work on DV previously. But since we are going to blow them up to film this time, we had to go for HD. I'm shooting the film in Asia. Tim, you can check out the more information about us from the news section in http://www.nepheshseed.com Currency over here is quite low unfortunately. It's has not been easy to get a good footage out from DV, but we've manage to do a decent job on dv so far. i think it should be easier on HD due to the bigger ccds, resolution, and so on. So i hope our training on dv all this while will have been useful. Correct me if i'm wrong. Thanks for the advice so far. and if we do have to do them ourselves, any thing we should take note?
  8. Hi everyone, I will be shooting an indie feature in December. We are working on an extremely tight budget, and we could not find someone who's familiar with HD to work with us within the budget. The film will be released in the cinemas. We've got a strong cast. And now, our only choice is to shoot the film ourselves. We are a team of filmmakers who has done everything in the past on our own. We figured that perhaps we'll just learn whatever that is needed and do them on our own just like what we do all the time. Only thing is that we have not work with HD before. I'm wondering if anyone has any advice for me. I know getting a bigger budget will help solve the problem, but it seems impossible right now. Moreover, there is not many DP in my country who's really good in HD. Their work are just average looking, and some is just bad, so it seems no difference getting them to work in this project. What should we do? Any advice given will be greatly appreciated.
