  1. Hey guys, I am shooting a tiny film out in Arizona soon and I am having trouble finding a rental house in Phoenix that will do a weekend rate for me. (i.e. Pay for Friday get Saturday and Sunday free) Does anyone have any reccomendations of places out there that I could rent from? The director isn't able to rent in LA so our only option is to rent out there and work with what we can get. Thanks in advance for your help.
  2. This show looks great. Any one have information on the shooting of the show?
  3. Hey guys a quick question for you. I am shooting a scene for an upcoming short in which the director wants to shoot directly into windows that have sunlight shining directly into them.(see picture below) She doesn't want to see through the windows, but just orient the audience to the fact that there is daylight in the room( the windows look pretty cool, too). It is on the second story of an old factory so to cut down/soften the light for the coverage(I want to use the window as key) I was planning on applying diffusion to each of the squares in the window. The room is probably 15x12 in an L shape and there are 2 windows that measure about 6x3(see rough diagram below. The room is painted white (aggh) so I am wondering if shooting the windows clean would be better, making the light more manageable. However, if I do shoot clean the increase in exposure might force me into starting the shot in a silhouette (which I don?t want) and/or getting a milky image. Any advice you could give would be great. The biggest light in my package is a Junior 2k (I have 2 of them) we are shooting 7218. Thanks for the help.
  4. Hi, I am starting production on a super 16mm short very soon. One of our locations is extremely tight. The room measures about 11 feet x 8 feet and it is filled up with items that we are not allowed to move out. The bed is backed into the far left corner of the room(it is a queen size) so essentailly the camera has about 2-3 feet on each side of the bed to move. It is an interior night scene in a bedroom. We are shooting on 7218 for night interiors. I was curious if you guys had any tips for shooting tight spaces. Is it possible to light mainly with practicals on 7218? How is the stock in low light? I was interested in covering it like the opening scene in Y Tu Ma Ma Tambien. I would post a picture but it there is graphic nudity/sex in the scene. It appears to be lit by a single source practical from behind the characters that is casting diffused light onto them and wrapping around them a bit. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  5. Hey guys, I am starting production soon on a short film about a young brother and sister that go out to the desert to find their father. The director and I both thought it would be interesting if we gave it that George Washington feel (DP Tim Orr, Dir. David Gordon Green). The look has a kind of sepia nostalgia feel to it, which I read on the forum he achieved through antique suede filters. Do you have any advice on shooting in this style-especially the level of filter to use(i.e. 1,2, or 3)? Is that type of coloring something that can completely be done in post? Also, The director is getting a bulk deal on Kodak stock so and I think we are shooting 7218 (for the poppier colors) but I was thinking it would be better to shoot on something a little slower for the day exteriors out in the desert that could give some more saturation (50D maybe?) Any advice and tips you guys might have for shooting in the desert would be great also. Thanks in advance.
  6. Hi, I was just curious if there are any noticeable differences between these two lights in terms of their performance. I am planning on renting some for a short I am going to shoot and it seems that the Baby-Baby seems like a much better light becasue it is smaller and thus more manageable. Am I wrong in thinking this way?
  7. I apologize for not being more clear. I am shooting small projects where I generally am pulling multiple duties Grip/Electric/Camera and I just want to be as prepared as possible for potential situations as they arise. Also, I am often offered work as a 1st/2nd AC or as a grip or gaffer and I think I still have things to learn in all of these departments so I am inclined to take the jobs as they come. Thanks again.
  8. Hello, I am recent graduate of film school and am in the need of buying supplies on my limited budget. Now, I know the main places to get things (Samy's,FilmTools etc.), but for certian elements of my ditty bag I am wondering if there are places that you guys can reccomend that would help me avoid the hefty mark-ups of these stores solely dedicated to filmmaking/photography. For example, instead of buying a mag lite from Samy's going to Home Depot and buying one that is cheaper. I am just looking for any tips you guys can give so that I can make my collection of equipment and supplies complete as frugally as possible. Specifically I am looking for cloth tape measure and black wrap. Thanks. (Forgive me if this question has been pored over already in the forums but I spent some time searching and found nothing relating to this)
