  1. I'm shooting a very low-budget 30 min film in the spring, that's very inspired by 50's westerns. For this reason, I want to shoot in 2.35:1 aspect ratio, with a mix of 24p (I'm don't think I can afford HD) and 16mm (for the outdoor stuff the big western vistas.) I'd appreciate any advice on mixing these formats. . . what stocks, cameras, etc. you might advice. Also, whether using a matte-box or special lenses is better. I'm not to worried about it being seamless (I'll also be using a bit of Super 8, so changes in the look will be just part of its aesthetic,) but I would like it to cut together! Thanks.
  2. Does anyone have any idea what sort of stocks the Eames used in shooting some of their shorts. I'm especially wondering about "Toccata for Toy Trains" and "Blacktop", but interested in them all.
  3. Hmmm, I meant the word 'faded" more in mood than actual TONE. I think "dirtied," might be better (and maybe that's best achieved in post.) It's faded as in older, a memory. I definitely want a vibrancy to the colors, but in almost a bleeding, Technicolor way (but like a dirty print.) The softness of the edges is the most important thing. Thanks for your suggestion, John. The 7229 looks very close to what I'm looking for, at least for portions of the film. I'd love to get reports from anyone on this stock, in different conditions. I'm also wondering if anyone can compare this (or its 35mm cousin) to the 5263/7263. I really love the softness of the 63, but find the palette too muted. I've thought about Fuji, especially the 8582 or 8552. Any comments on these? I'm a little afraid of the Fuji green, preferring a more golden green. What about reversal stock? Might that suit my needs? Thanks.
  4. I'm shooting in 16 (and transferring to DV,) and want a high saturation, low contrast stock. I'd like bright blues and golden greens for the outdoor footage, and black shadows with rich tones inside. Most importantly, I don't want extremely sharp edges. I'm going for a more sfumato, soft gradation. Any suggestions? (The film has the feel of faded color snapshots, and faded technicolor fifties films.)
