  1. Here is a fun little environmentally themed MV/Short film I shot in august. Its meant for online and film festivals and is screening in Paris later this month (at the 2008 Le Festival International du Film d'Environnement). Shot on the original HVX and on Super8mm. S8 was transfered to SD and then uprezzed to HD. http://www.andrewdavidwatson.com/v2/unfair169.html Andrew www.andrewdavidwatson.com ps - I was working for the IFC for the last year+ shooting news segments and miniDocs about the elections. I'm outta of a job now (not totally true i have other clients) so if anyone needs crew let me know! I spilt my time between philly and NYC.
  2. Cool, I will let you know if come. Which direction are you from Olympic Stadium? When i briefly lived in Rome for school, i lived near the cirpo metro station but use to ride my bike pass olympic stadium sometimes. My friend (who is american) use to live near universita degli studi di roma la sapienza but just moved but is still in that general area. I did not see your email in your profile, but feel free to email me - andrewdavidwatson (at) gmail (dot) com
  3. Thanks Francesco, I mostly use a 24mm, buts its on an older canon 10d which has a 1.6 crop, so that makes the lens (correct me if i'm wrong) closer to a 38mm. Where do you live in Rome? I'm in the process of planning o a few short projects there for hopefully middle of september (if schedule works out). If all goes as planned i'll be there for 10 days.
  4. Thanks Dave. Does PTGUI let you export into the 3d environment quicktime like you have on your site? Those are badass.
  5. When you cant shoot 2:35, shoot the next best thing, PANORAMAS!! I've been having fun with CS3's photo-merge option. I dug deep into my photo archival and put together a bunch of panoramic photos. check them out! http://www.andrewdavidwatson.com/v2/blog/ Andrew
  6. wanna know the best part? it wasnt a dolly, but a slow moving boat! This was the first time I ever shoot from a boat, but once you get the hang of it, shooting from a slow moving boat can yield some wonderful results!
  7. Walter, i 100% agrea. Great point. I, not to long ago, was really really obessed with what camera everything was shot on and tried my hardest to shoot on the best format i could, but lately i have learned it so much more about the stories and people. Good stories will always out live technology.
  8. I'm pretty sure i was shooting on the Sony ZU1 (man i sound like an idiot not knowing, but it wasnt my normal set up). I did some post color correction to the footage, but i think what really makes it stunning is the natural surroundings i had to shoot. Nothing beats shooting in Astoria on a clear early morning.
  9. poop, good thing it was only two rolls that i havent shot yet... thanks for the warning. now to find someting to waste them on.
  10. hey, so i was traveling the other week and forgot i had a few rolls of ektachrome 64t that i left in my suitecase. I know that normal xray machines (like the ones at the security check points) do not effect film under 400asa, but what about the xray machines the suitecases go through, any different?
  11. cool dude, i'm back right now but am flying out again thrusday, i'll be around most of february unless i pick up another travel heavy gig. i'll drop you an email.
  12. Oh hey dude! how have you been? Talked to adam at all lately? Drop me an email, i've been in out and of philadelphia (i'm covering the election for the IFC channel so i have been all over the place). I'm still living in south philly so we need to get a beer!!! Bowen - i cant reminder for sure but i think it was just the Sony ZU1, or maybe the newer model. I usually shot on the DVX/HVX and i cant reminder, sorry!
  13. Hello, i just updated my website with some new work and i would love some feedback. General porfolio - www.andrewdavidwatson.com Specific projects 16mm B&W reversal Music Video (shot with a bolex and Aaton LTR7) www.andrewdavidwatson.com/v2/anberlin.html Pacific Northwest Highlight footage - HDV www.andrewdavidwatson.com/v2/lexhighlights.html Audio Slide Show from Treviso, Italy www.andrewdavidwatson.com/v2/treviso.html Thanks! 14. Thanks for the feedback.... i think i might just take that advice and change it when i have a few minutes, very good point. Thanks! Andrew
  15. thanks! yes there is two blank spots and then a spot for the screw... do you think the blank spot before the screw, should be 32 fps? thanks! andrew
  16. Hey, i just redid my whole website and would love to share it with you guys. Most of it is doc/non fiction stuff shot on DV, but there is some HD and Super16 projects (in particular check out "Three A.M." in my portfolio). http://www.andrewdavidwatson.com Thanks! Andrew David Watson
  17. Hey, quick film question. I'm shooting on an LTR7 and have a quick question. On the frame rate knob it has the different frame rates. Its has the lower frame rates then 24, 28, and then two blank spots. The owner's manual says it goes up to 32. Do all LTR's only go up to 32, any chance the blank spaces are for 36 fps, or 48? I'm doing a camera test tomorrow, so i can hopefully figure it out better, but just wondering if anyone has some knowledge here. Thanks! Andrew David Watson www.andrewdavidwatson.com
  18. hey, just wanted to say i really like your reel. Are any of the short films in your reel online for viewing? I would really like to see the one in the middle with the soldier. keep up the good work. andrew
  19. huh, i'm surprised to hear you say that. out of lots of people to see my work online, you are the first to mention anything about file size. 15mbs to big for a music video? 4mbs to big for a 30 sec spot? those sizes seems fairly standard to me. Maybe not for mass distrubition but for portfolio sites where you want to keep at least some quality to it.
  20. Hello, i just found this forum a little while back and havent posted much, but plan on it. I wanted to introduce myself and post a link to my website that has some of my work on it. Most of it was shot on the panasonic DVX, but there is also some stuff shot on film too. Any feedback on any of the stuff is welcome. I also have another music video that is nearly completed and will be posted shortly. Thanks http://www.andrewdavidwatson.com/ Andrew Watson
  21. okay i have a question. I shot some super16mm this weekend on an aaton LTR super16mm camera. I realize now after shooting that i may have loaded the camera wrong. On the supply side of the mag i had the film going counter clock wise and looped under the roller then up into the other side. I realize now that i should have had it running clock wise and then under the roller up into the other side. When i loaded it the other way, the pref still match up with the notches on the rollers and the claw. The emuslion was also facing the gate. Since i threaded the take up side outside the bag i know this was loaded right. The camera still seemed to run fine, not making any more then the typical sound. Is my film going to be all messed up or will it be okay (since the rollers on the take up side are indepdent)? Any input would be great. I cant logicly figure out what i did, all i know is that i had the supply side going counter clockwise but the take up side threaded what seemed to be right. also, If a roll of super16mm is sitting on a counter top with the film coming off clock wise (the way it would naturaly fall off), should the pref be on the bottom or the top of the roll? And would this be different for negative or postive stocks? Thanks.
