  1. Perhaps I'm sticking my neck out here, but when they make a low-con positive contact print for telecine, isn't that usually printed on very fine-grain ultra-slow stock from a correctly-exposed normal-speed neg? (I've never done a job with that sort of budget myself, so I'm no expert:o) I'm pretty sure you can't get the same results by simply under-exposing the original negative or using contrast reducing filters, otherwise everybody would be doing it that way, wouldn't they? Surely if you lower the image contrast on either a film or a video camera, you're just going to bring up all the grain and/or noise when you restore it to the correct level?
  2. I'm not really up on the finer details of using HD cameras with prime lenses, but recently a client has been making noises about shooting a commercial on HD and seems to think he needs them. I've heard that the "Panavized" Cine Altas suffer from focus drift as they heat up. Does this happen with Panavision's entire digital range of lenses, or is it just the zooms? Also, is this a problem peculiar to Panavision equipemnt, or do other manufacturer's Digital primes behave the same way? I would have thought some sort of temperature compensation would have been possible. Personally, I think the zoom lenses supplied as standard equipment with most HD cameras are pretty good, is it really worth the extra expense of renting primes, at least for a TV commercial? 3. There would not be as much difference between that and 35mm film framed as super-35. If you frame a picture for 2.35 on a standard 16 x 9 HD camera, you're losing about 100 lines at the top and bottom, in other words, using an adaptor gains you about 25% more vertical resolution. But as somebody else said you're only increasing the vertical resolution a bit, the horizontal stays the same, less what may be lost by the anamorphosizer. Using a 1.33 to 1 adaptor on the projector is worthwhile, rather than just letterboxing because it will theroetically give an increase in brightness of about 25% George Lucas is a JOKE? I'm afraid shall have to ask you to step outside! (And close the door after you :P )
