  1. I've had a 7D for a little over a month now and I'm wondering, does anyone else notice a kind of odd motion blur that doesn't look like a film or HD camera does? I know it has a rolling shutter and gets jello-y when panned to fast, but I'm wondering why the motion blur at 1/50 seems blurrier than shooting on a normal HD camera at 1/50? I've seen a lot of things online, and the handheld shots look the most pronounced and particularly when its a closeup of a person. These are all at 1/50th and 24p that I'm referring to. Does anyone have a good idea how to minimize the motion blur? Is there maybe something you could do in After FX to change the motion slightly? Or should I just try to raise the shutter speed more?
  2. Does anyone know what the latitude is like on the EX1/EX3? Anyone know how many stops it has? I've heard a ton of great things about it, but all of the footage I've seen looks pretty contrasty. It looks even contrastier than the HVX200 in my opinion. Anyone know the actuals details on it? I noticed they don't include any specs on its EI or the range it has. Makes me concerned, coz I'm really close to buying it, but I want to make sure its gonna be better than the HVX in most ways. Latitude is definately top of my list in terms of a cameras permformance. Thanks. Peter Borrud
  3. I'm shooting a film for two weeks in Michigan with a E Series Fujinon 10x Zoom and another cinestyle lens with it. For the E Series 10x, does anyone know what the minimum focus distance is on that particular lens? Also, I think the lens is a T1.8, but Ric from Panavision told me that it has not been optimized to shoot at T1.8 . Does anyone know the adverse affect of shooting with it wide open (instead of a 2.8 or something similar), particularly for HD? Cheers, Peter
  4. I'm a Junior in the film program at Biola University. You may not have heard the school, but its a good, up-and-coming school in the area of filmmaking. I'm definately a very driven, motivated, productive, and creative person and I've loved shooting shooting several short films so far. Most projects I've done have been SD and HD, with only some 16mm and 35mm. I'm currently signed up as the DP to shoot a feature this summer with a director from Pepperdine. Its a 5 week shoot, 90 page script, $70,000-100,000 budget, taking place in Honduras and Chicago, with very good actors involved and likely a distribution deal if its good enough. I'm not getting paid, but everything else is covered. I'll also be prepping for it all next semester along with shooting a couple other shorts. So... my question is: is it a good idea for me to go into this? So far I haven't shot anything over 23 minutes, excluding a documentary. I've also made some mistakes on a couple of projects which scares me that I might be the one to "screw up" this project. So I guess I'm concerned that I'm not ready enough for it. I would hate to come out of it with something that's going to scar my career. Besides, I'm still a student and I have plenty of opportunities to keep making good shorts for my reel and I'm not sure I feel like taking on this stress load without getting paid and still being a student. Does anyone have any advice on when is a good time to shoot your first feature?? Thanks Peter
  5. I'm unsure what tapestock is the best for the Varicam, anyone know? Also, what does the red top and the yellow top mean on certain tapes? Anyone have any extensive knowledge in this area? Thanks. Peter
