  1. A lot of information on that link also. I'm reading all the posts and learning a lot about the black and white look. Thanks for that link.
  2. I love the picture on the first post of that link. If we shoot wednesday I'm going to go for that look fo sho' :) That cross processed look is hot. Maybe I can talk them into doing some B&W and some like that.
  3. I guess the yellows you guys are seeing is the warm filter that I always use. I did throw the image in photoshop and hit autocolor to see what it gave me and it took out the yellows. I like what you did to the image, it brought out the angles of her face more which I thought was interesting. I would have back lit her more also if I had my kit up there. We stopped in that place to get access to the roof and when we froze to death, we came down and decided to get some quick window shots before the sun went down. That shot you choose was just after the sun went behind the buildings. You can see 2 shots before that one where the sun was shining through the window. I don't know why but I love cropping to 2.35:1 or smaller. I think its because the black borders give the illusion that the colors pop more. I wound up cropping this older video really small. My friends call it "aram" vision. Probably just a phase I'm going through. http://www.cinematography.com/forum2004/in...showtopic=25502 Here is the final vid from that here. http://datruthspitters.com/Lets_stay.html
  4. Thanks for commenting. I never take it personally. :) These are going to be black and white which is killing me but thats what they want. As far as locations go, it was run and gun as we found things. I had to make do with what I had because all the locations fell through on the day of shooting. I thought we were going to shoot 2 days this weekend and I had the idea that there were 2 Madisons in the same frame with one looking all weak and submissive and the other commanding and alpha-female. That got scrapped when we start shooting and the locations they got started falling through and the outsides were a little rushed because it was freezing out. Oh well :P. You got to do what you got to do when its gets rough. We had a rooftop they wanted but we did one take and was like fook this, its too cold and went inside and shot near the window with all natural lights and a bounce. All my lights were in the jeep but never used them there since that was a spur of the moment before it got dark. I have wider shots but she was moving so much I couldn't get a clean grab from them plus I was on a glide cam making the motion even more blurred at a shutter of 24. They want to shoot in an auto-body shop next so let's see what I can do with that place when I get there. Probably will only have an hour to shoot I bet. As far as contrast. On my CRT it looks like there is enough contrast. Are you on LCDs? Can you photoshop one of the stills to give me an idea of what you like in terms of contrast?
  5. HVX200 and Brevis35 with the new GG and Nikons Screenshots for now. Let me know what you think. :) Day 1
  6. Looked cool, I was just afraid of NTSC colors in the slight chance its gets TV play.
  7. I think I may go back to the super saturated greens I had. What I liked about the green I had was that i tinted the highlights green and so the faces had this emerald highlight that made them look plastic.
  8. Ah, I know what you see. Like a frame that got missed. I know whats that from, after effects renders seemed to drift and I had to cut frames out to bring is back into synch. I bet I missed a frame and its the underlying layer poking through. :P I think I'm going to change the ending color this week. I was watching and yeah, i don't feel the old film look.
  9. Wow that was a great short. The Editing was really well done. The acting was great. The shooting was gritty. NICE!Is there a DVD version?
  10. Thanks for watching and taking the time to critique. The shot at the end was to evoke a physical reaction from the viewer and give them the feeling of dizziness. I did have that part a bright saturated green but I was afraid of NTSC broadcast colors not liking that so i went and changed it to old film look. I think I may change it back. The coloring grading at the part where it turns slo-mo? If thats the part, what happened was it was supposed to be cloudy all day that day according to weather.com and the sun went and popped itself out halfway through the shoot making me have to deal with the grey cloudy look to the bright sunny look. Some of the really green shots were shot on another day without the girls. I do like the transition of the colors but I wish I had more balance of shots between both types of grading. I also wish I had more planning time now that I watch the video, got the gig and had to shoot 2 days after. I probably would have tried to make it look like panorama shots by lining up the edges like some of the shots that did it by accident. I like the split screen idea where we follow each at the same time I just wish I had more time to think out the idea. Another reason for the split screen was to hope people watch it twice to find things they missed the first time.
  11. Oops, double post. Please remove one of them. It must have had a delay of something. When I first posted only one showed up but this morning there are 2...
  12. Shot on HVX with the Brevis35 adpater and Zeiss lenses. Video: http://www.puffinfilms.com/DTS_lets_stay/D...2getherH264.mov Comments most welcome :)

  14. I really liked the look of those and the music fit the coloring. Made me feel like I was watching some pre-war home movies.
  15. Looks very nice. I love the first two opening shots the best. I didn't like the bloom on the night shots of the guy with the lighter, it made it feel "new" or too current. Hard to explain but it doesn't feel old in those shots. The production value of the trucks make it look like it took more than 3K to do. Good work.
  16. Looks good. Yeah too bad about having to put it on youtube. Doesn't do justice to any clip.
  17. Thanks. I want to try to get it to a minute. I'm stuck in that I-want-to-show-everything mode. I think i will have my girl friend do a cut and see what she does. I also have footage from 2 more things I just shot this last week that have a different look so it just adds to the pile of stuff. This is harder than I thought. Also, watching other peoples shots, they hold on them longer is that better than trying to edit to faster music and getting more shots in?
  18. If you can't afford a silk than you can try a low thread sheet or frosted shower curtain and have your friends stand on boxes out of frame holding it over the talent. Then use the reflector to fade up the light under the sheet or curtain.
  19. Here is a new edit but I'm still working on it. Comments fully welcome. :) http://www.puffinfilms.com/Aram/Aram_DP_reel_Roughcut2.mov
  20. Thanks for the comments. I am trying to cut it to half but its tough. I should have someone else edit it for me maybe because the first reaction is to put everything in that I shot. Plus I have to more things I'm shooting now that are much better than some of the stuff on here and I have a gaffers shot I want to put in the end for lighting design. I don't know any committed AC's, just other film makers with cameras. I'm shooting this weekend otherwise I'd offer myself. I'm pretty confident I can throw down some nice focus pulls. If you want some names though I can give them to you.
  21. Hi all, This is the first time I have cut a reel together and it was hard as hell. I already see a lot I want to change and delete but I just wanted to get this far at least. Please feel free to say anything about it and suggestions. I am more than open for critique. Thanks! 22. I don't see an edit area for posts. I meant a F2 lens.
  23. Thanks Dan. I should have some of the actual footage soon. Been in touch with a dance troop thats willing to donate time for this project. Now I have to scout some really nice colorful locations and match the clothes and it should be nice.
  24. I loved a lot of the shots in there but I also found that it dragged and started to forward through the movie. I think some tighter editing could move the story long faster. I find I have this same problem where I want to hold too long on things being a shooter during the edits but my girlfriend diligently makes me cut things much shorter and in the end it flows better. That gas station wide was a nice shot and the glow off the lights gave it nice atmosphere.
