  1. Thanks. I appreciate the feedback and definitely keep it coming. :) I'm shooting on an HVX with a Brevis35 adapter. I used a 28mm F1.2 for all the shots framing with the anamorphic cropping in mind. The gun was some replica of a PPK. The gun I plan on using for the short is a CP99 because its easily recognizable at a glance which is key for the story. The lights were from an Arri kit. 2 350s and 2 150s. I think in one of the 650s were on in the shot where hes looking at the camera. I think I'm going to have the foyer the color you see now, the living room a blue and the dining room orange so its like looking through a color tube or something. I still have to work that out. I didn't have any gels on the lights but i had a filter on the lens. I didn't have any reflectors or gobos around but I should have thought about that before I headed over. The light shifts you see from shot to shot is on purpose. I wanted to see if it was pronounced enough to be noticeable because I wanted exposure for the mirror shot but the next shot I wanted that "step into the light" thing you see without being too dark. It worked for the most part I think. I just have to have him work on the facial expression when he steps out. (I'm also directing). The biting of the lips seems like hes concentrating when it should be second nature for a seasoned hit man. When he opens the door I will have a light outside the door but for this test I didn't because of rain. Its a first test which I'm pretty happy with but will work a few more tests in before I shoot just to see my options. I do want to use a little more diffusion in the shots. Even though I'm using the hit man genre for a vehicle to get my story across but its more a surreal personal story. When I get my scheme locked and shot I will probably put up some diagrams of what I did for those who want to see.
  2. Here are some lighting tests for a small foyer. Its tiny so I found anything brighter than a 650 would totally wash it out. The aesthetic will hopefully be old school but not a period piece if you know what I mean. I see where I need to add some rim light here and there and I also have not really lit the 3rd room yet meaning the dining room. So it's foyer, living room(dark), dining room. Any feed back or idea welcome. http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=92722 Thanks. Aram
  3. Here are some links if you want to look at some HVX and Brevis35 shots. I think it may be worth it but go the way Matt says, get someone that has the setup already and has tweaked before hand. It takes a little while to get used to what ever unit you decide on and each individual unit will be different. http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=92722 http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=90454 http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=91396
  4. We just got word that the Exposure special featuring mine and Leslie Goff's HeroFest entry, RFeyeD, and the other 8 winners of the online short film contest last November, will air on SciFi Channel and Sundance Channel in April at the following times: * Sunday, April 22, midnight * Thursday, April 26, 8:30 a.m. * Friday, April 27, 3:00 a.m. So, please stay up late or set your TiVos... We had to shoot a brief introduction to the film that will run just prior to our film, as well as a short outro that will run after. So take a look and let me know what you think. Voting for the Grand Prize Winner will take place that week at both the SciFi Channel and Sundance Channel Web sites. Thanks for all of your support!

  8. I know this is late but if you have not already replaced your camera check your insurance about replacing it. A friend of mine got his stolen the same way and his insurance replaced it within a month.

    guide me to buy

Before you buy though I would do A LOT of research on whats out there by hitting as many forums as can find. I heard the JVC has a line through the image because of dual sensor recording one image or something like that. And the sonys are prone to random audio problems that you cant hear until after dumping the footage. I havnt had first person experience in these but I held off buying anything until the HVX comes out because of what I have read. Hope that helps.
  10. Here is my first post... You can get that effect by shooting green screen and have the talent wear black or really dark colors for easy keying and the dark color wont pick up the green as much. Key out the green (you can do this with any light color if you cant get a green screen) and apply a drop shadow filter on the keyed footage. I dont know about other programs but After effects allows you to show shadows only and poof, you have your shot. You can control the hardness or fuzzyness also. To get the depth I would shoot each couple separatly and create the depth in after effects. Just make sure you get the full body in the shots. Edit- As far as lighting just make sure the people are dark. You dont need to really worry about making them look good because you are just using the drop shadow effect from the filter and not the actual footage. You can can even do this in a white room with alot of shadows being cast and pretty much pull a clean enough matte for this effect. Hope that helps.. Aram
