  1. I only run the cleaning tape after about 50 hours of tape, or if I've used a different tape stock. I would recommend only using one brand of high quality tape, (I only use sony tapes) different brands use different lubricants which can dirty up the heads a lot quicker. You shouldn't have to clean them too much though. What you should really do is get a professional cleaning cause the dry tape doesn't clean pinch roller and other parts in the tape path. Also set your camera to disengage the heads if not filming for a minute, it will save some wear on them as they still spin even when in stand-by/not recording. Any Sony dealer should be able to package and send you camera to Sony for cleaning and I think it's only 50$ -- free if you're under warranty!! hope that answers your question.
  2. Guess you're my only reply -- I was under the impression that some peeps' might be doing something different. In any case what you described is exactly how mine are: shots grouped in categories, 3 different cuts to appeal to the different employers needs. I have seen some more original stuff online, but don't know how that would carry over to DVD --- for example I was considering using and entire scene from the last short I photographed, it's an action scene and I'm very proud of how it turned out. I guess I'm not changing as much as I wanted to, thanks
  3. I'm looking for advice from the pros -- I'm currently adding new material to my "reel". I'd like to know what structural approach I should take (whole sequences or just shots)? Should I have a bunch of fancy editing effects? I'm looking to produce a reel that will get me jobs, so any advice or suggestions are welcome. As it stands now my reel is basically a montage of my best material -- it runs about 4 mins. When the DVD goes in it starts playing then goes to a menu with my info and some options. Thanks, in advance, for your help
  4. I don't know why I keep getting these e-mails. I changed my display name, I've made posts, I changed my signature. . . This is all getting a little ridiculous. Just kick 'em out already!
  5. I've posted replies before, does that count? Maybe I just need a signature. I like to read the posts. maybe I'll post something about shutter speed control of the sony z1? we'll see. Are there teenagers floating around here?
  6. I don't think this is true. It is comperssing the info in-camera and "throwing away color informaiton, but I do not think that you can record "true" HD to another deck. You may be able to record to an HD deck via the fire wire to composite output but it's just adding zeros in the signal and you are not gaining any color information. HDV is HDV. sorry kid, it is what it is -- but it looks damn nice even at 4_2_0. I don't think this is true. 7. If you're always working on a script and about to go to a better school (better conections) then what are you worried about? So no one is doing anything -- you're about to leave them behind, right? best of luck to you.
