Five years on I have been exploring the same problem with the first 'wide-screen' Japanese film "Buddha". Did you find a photochemical solution to your problem Gautam? One thing I can say, having looked at the OCN of the film this year, is that the process meant that head and tail extensions for all dissolves and fades were left in the OCN (at least in my case) and so a straight blow-up to a 70mm will not work. I am aware of at least one Technirama film currently being restored in the LA area at 13K, 6.5K for each 4-perfs of the 8-perf frame.
