Blimping Super 8 Canon 514 xl
nick ventura posted a topic in Super-8Hello all, I am a student interested in filmmaking and i have an idea for a short that I would potentially like to shoot on super 8. I use a canon 514 xl which shoots at 18fps and gets scanned in at 24. I end up bringing it back to its original speed in premiere later on but i would like to record dialogue at the same time for a little 2 minute short. I was wondering if anyone has had experience with blimping this camera or recording dialogue with a similar super 8 setup as I would much rather use film than digital for this project. I appreciate any advice you guys can give me. Thank you Nick
ARRI Alexa EV recording
Henrik A Meyer posted a topic in ARRIHi I am a Cinematographer on a feature film that we're going to start filming in September on the ARRI Alexa EV camera. We have the SXS cards and can max film in ProRes 4444. My question is, is it worth trying to find faster cards and then film in ARRI raw? Or do I get almost the same quality out of the ProRes 4444. The film is properly going to end up on a DCP 2K or 4K. We are setting the camera up fro 16:9 full and then use a 1:2:35 mask to frame after. Thank you, Henrik A. Meyer www.henrikameyer.com
Can you record two seperate .wav files on Zoom H4n?
Lew Matthews posted a topic in SoundHi all. I have been using the Zoom H4n as a portable audio interface on shoots. I've been using a RodeLink wireless lav for single presenter shows and used the built in mics for shows with more then one presenter, but as it's not very good from a distance I have bought a Sennheiser MKE600. What I was wondering, for all you audio genius', was is there a way that I can have the Sennheiser MKE600 plugged into input 1, and another mic (for arguments sake say a sm58) plugged into input 2 whilst recording two separate audio files? I know you can adjust the gain of each pre production but it would be really helpful to be able to record using both mics and then be able to plug my sd card into my computer and have a file for each mic. So far the only way I have found is to set the H4n to MTR and record as a multi track, but its not as user friendly as the four track interface as it gives you less room to scope the gain levels... If anyone has any other suggestions then that would be greatly appreciated. All the best Lew
Robert Boscacci posted a topic in Visual Effects CinematographyOdd request, but here goes: An upcoming script calls for the ability to record at least half-decent looking 720p at 24p for...3 hours straight, no cuts. One locked-off shot down a beach (powering everything is another question entirely) that has to just roll for 3 hours. This is not for timelapse: It needs to actually roll 24p for three hours continuously. What sort of camera (plus external recorder, potentially) system might you aficionados recommend for a task like this one? I have a 7D at my disposal, but I figure that won't do me much good. Probably looking at something with at least SDI out, wonder if there's a way to go direct to some spinning disk array or something... It's basically gonna be a parody of those YouTube videos that are just stock footage, like "3 Hours Tranquil Beach Waterfall Blue Skies," but in a dark demented sort of way. Thanks for trying! -Rob
Mulitunit 4K camera setups for television?

I'd like to ask what you think about the following, If you were to shoot a multicam television show in 4K to future proof it for the coming UHD technology and broadcast specs.... what would you shoot it with? I was looking at the pros and cons of renting either RED Epic, RED Scarlet, Sony F55 CineAlta, and the Panasonic 4K Varicam. How would you keep cost low as possible while maintaining a smooth workflow for a 3 unit camera setup? And what would you do differently for a talk show as opposed to a reality show? For a talk show, I've been told 60fps in HD is the normal recording format to give a live feel, I was under the impression that was the case only because many television cameras captured frames interlaces and not progressive? So considering most of these 4K cameras (I think) capture progressive, would 60fps still be needed? And to wrap this up with a final question, how would you both stream each of the 3 4K feeds to a switch as well as record all 3 stream individually? While keeping costs as low as possible. Sorry for all the questions, it's just it's a new frontier and I haven't found a whole lot published about this.
