Hi everyone! So, I have an issue with the manual aperture control in a Canon Auto Zoom 814 (when pulled out, in manual mode). The aperture needle is being moved while turning the aperture control counter-clockwise, but it does not stay in the f/stop position I want it to stay and goes back to the left position). Does anyone happen to encounter this issue with this camera? I filmed a cartridge which looked decent in auto-mode (EE/manual aperture ring pushed in), but was going to experiment a little with some backlighting. Hi there, I just got a Canon Auto Zoom 814 off of eBay and I noticed that it’s a little hard to see through the viewfinder in low light conditions such as in bedrooms at night, and outdoors after the sun goes down. Is this normal? Do Canon Auto Zoom 814 viewfinders run a little dark? I can barely see the exposure needle if I’m not in a well lit location. Just wanted to ask and see if this is normal when it comes to Canon AZ 814s or if there might be something wrong with my camera. Any and all advice or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Hi all, i hope you’re well. I'm a little new to super 8 filmmaking and I was wondering if someone might be able to confirm something for me or maybe give me some guidance? So, I recently bought a used Canon Auto Zoom 814 from Etsy and everything seems to be working perfectly except for something peculiar I've noticed when looking through the viewfinder. Everything seems to be so, well, dark whenever I look through the viewfinder. It looks like there's a filter that cuts the light quite a bit when looking through the it. Is this normal? I can barely see anything in low light conditions and it's a struggle to see anything properly when indoors. I messaged the seller about this problem and they told me that these results are normal because of the mirror reflex system on the camera. Does this sound right? If you have a Canon Auto Zoom 814, does it run darker than usual when looking through the viewfinder? Is this a normal issue with Super 8 cameras? If not, should I expect to see something else, maybe something brighter, when taking a look? Any advice or guidance would be much appreciated. Thanks so much!

Hello, I've recently purchased a Canon auto zoom 814 (not the electric version) with two rolls of Ektachrome 160 from Ebay with a guarantee that it was completely functioning. I loaded in the correct voltage Wein Cell batteries for the exposure meter and AA batteries and decided to load in one of the rolls of film to shoot a test roll. I made sure I put the cartridge in the correct way and securely, and when I pressed the shutter lever it seemed as though it was filming. However, when I checked the footage counter the little needle didn't move at all, making me worry that none of my film is actually being exposed. I tried opening the compartment and taking out the cartridge and putting it back in, which I thought worked because I swore the needle moved a little when I pressed the lever, but I went out today to shoot and the needle didn't move at all the entire time I shot. Could the dial just be broken and the camera actually be exposing the film or is there some other issue with my camera/ none of the footage actually getting exposed?? Thanks!
