Hello, I'm seeking a DP for a feature film. I'm still putting together many of the moving parts such a named actors, money and locations therefore this director of photography will become part of the package I present to financiers. Ideally, I'm seeking someone who has 10 years plus experience and has at-least 3 films to his/her credits that are theatrical releases. Why is theatrical important especially today you may ask. Good question. Someone who has films continually exhibited in theaters knows what a theatrical film should look like. I'm not seeking someone who can shoot a TV looking movie. I'm looking for a cinematographer who understands how a shot translates when it's project 20 ft height and 50 ft long and the understand lighting and color. Some of the film will be shot under water so knowledge of underwater shooting is helpful especially when dealing with lighting. Also, some very important scenes will be shot at night and I'm looking for less grain in the blacks for my night shots. I understand grain can be cleaned up however the less we have to do in post the better. If it's right when it's shot, it's better in the edit. Hey all, I am currently looking for a DP well versed in 35mm scope photography for my next short film "Secrets of Aperture." "Secrets of Aperture" was funded earlier this year through Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/colinandconnor/portal-secrets-of-aperture-webseries We are set on shooting 35mm anamorphic, and are aspiring for a fully optical workflow, including a print. I have been perusing this forum for a long time now, and found it a fantastic resource for learning about film. Always planned on hiring a DP through here as opposed to Mandy or elsewhere. We have no exact shoot dates but are looking at some time in mid-end of February. The job is decently paid, but will be determined later. If you are interested would love to hear from you. Hi everyone, My name is Vatsala and I am graduating from the Film and Television Institute of India (F.T.I.I.) early in 2014 where I'm currently studying Cinematography (a three year post graduate program). I'll be moving to the SF Bay area immediately after I finish school. Once here, i shall be looking for jobs as a cinematographer and have several questions in this regard. I'm uncertain about where to start, so listing immediate questions here and seek your guidance: 1) a) How do I surface on the difficulty & opportunity scale in terms of opportunities to cinematography jobs as a foreign national? b ) Where do fresh cinematography graduates like myself typically start in the US - assisting/ camera operating/ 2nd units? Or does it depend from person to person? 2) What are the typical visa categories that would apply to me if I were looking for a job in this sector? Currently I'm visiting SFO on a dependent visa, which continues until i start working - how does that place me in the visa context while looking for a job? 3) a) What's the norm for foreigners people starting out here - do people freelance or get on to payrolls? b ) Does freelancing make it difficult to get sponsored by the employer especially since I'm not a citizen & competing with US citizens + fresh grads from the USA? 4) Are there any forums & people (online and on ground) that I can immediately connect with while I am visiting the Bay Area? 5) While I am here I would like to go and observe a camera crew at work.
