  1. Is there anyone in Toronto who has a Konvas 2M who would be interested in lending a hand teaching me how to use the camera? I have an upcoming project that I am considering using the camera on. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  2. Does anyone out there know of someone in Toronto that has the ability to service a Bolex H16? I recently received an old Bolex to my great delight as a gift that I want to shoot on and I have the resources (stock, access to processing, ect.) to do it, but it seems that the camera needs a bit of care in order to get it running again. It winds, the motor runs, and film moves through it properly, the issue though is that it does not keep a constant speed and will slow down at the end of the wind or if it’s in the middle of a roll of film, move very slowly as though the motor is weak. I don’t know nearly enough about the inner workings of this piece of gear in order to consider opening it up and I think that most likely it needs to be cleaned and lubricated. I’m hoping to find someone in the city to do it because I don’t have the money to ship it off somewhere else and get it serviced. It’s also a non-reflex model so it is quite old and I don’t know the history behind it so I can only assume it’s been a very long time since it’s received proper care.
  3. Hello fellow filmmakers, I'm a Toronto DP of 13 years experience, and I'm thinking about making the move to Hollywood. I'm trying to meet directors and producers in LA, but if anyone could point me in the direction of where to go to meet said people, I'd be much obliged. Are there any indie film meet ups? Particular opportunities for schmoozing? Also, looking for a place to live once I move there....I was thinking Silverlake or West Hollywood.....any strong opinions for/against? I'll most likely plan a 1-2 month reconnaissance trip in the near future, and I'd love to meet any of you fine folks in person. I'd be looking to pick up a US cell phone as well....any advice as to which are the best service providers would be appreciated....any Canadians make the move down there? I have an iPhone 5s (Rogers), and I'd love to just use it down there with a US sim card, so all my contacts are still in tact. Any suggestions what's the best way to go about this? 4. Hi Cinematography.com, I'm a second year film student and an aspiring cameraman/D.O.P. I am currently working as a junior editor at a production house for the summer, and am wondering what I should invest my money on once I've compiled enough when school starts! At the moment, I am wondering if I should invest in two decent lenses, lights, filters, and grip stands instead of a camera body such as GH4 + lens. The reason is because I will have another year of school, which means access to cameras such as F3 (Hell even Bolex h16) till April 2015 + 6 months graduation equipment rental blessing from my college, and by then I'm kind of worried that the next best deal will be released. Also I am not too crazy about 4K resolution or slow-mo... I'd much rather prefer that Wes Anderson X Robert Yeoman look or films by Hirokazu Koreeda. (I am a wide-lens fanatic) So my question is, would it be a wise choice to invest in equipments other than a camera body? Or should I be focusing my attention on something else? I'm hoping whatever I will squeeze out of my 5 grand will help me on the long run rather... If you can help me with my inexperienced and confused self, then it is very much appreciated. THANK YOU.
  5. I've just finished up my second demo reel ever for 2013 and I'd love to get the communities feedback. I'm working more in the direction of narrative and commercial work. Here is my reel: Let me know what you think!
  6. I have recently been accepted to Ryerson film studies and Concordia for film production and I'm having a rather difficult time deciding. I'm curious which program is considered to be better than the other and what one program offers that the other does not. I need to accept one of them very soon, any insight is useful. Thank you
  7. Hi, I am curious about Toronto, what are the main filmmaking nerve centers in this area? I know the Toronto film festival, but I was wondering what are the main rental companies (camera or lighting), studios, film schools and universities, post houses, unions, etc... ? Thanks! G.C.
