Cooke S4 Primes

In my recent reading of American Cinematographer, I have noticed that alot of cinematographers were using the Cooke S4 Primes. I was wondering what made these lenses so appealing and what they have over other prime lenses.

They are well-built, low-flare, low-distortion modern lenses but less contrasty, less snappy, than Zeiss lenses. Some people feel that this makes them more natural, less clinical, and more flattering for faces. "Rounder" is one word that comes to mind. Or you could just say that they look softer than Zeiss lenses... but certainly sharp by any standard.
