Joe Riggs
I heard some grips remove the sticker from their measuring tape in order to have a mirrored surface. Is this true and how is this mirrored surface beneficial?
Darryl Richard Humber
I honestly haven't the faintest clue what you are referring to. If anything, you should cover it up if it's exposed so that light doesn't catch it and reflect onto the set during a take. Some grips carry a small handleld mirror to help set 12 x bounces, but tape measures?

It seemed odd to me as well, checkout this LINK, a little after the halfway point he mentions it, but doesn't give any detail.
steve laramie
No this is quite common. Its use is exactly what it sounds like. They can use the small mirror to check under stuff like base plates and anything else. I really cant get a good example of use but I know it is a very common trick.
