compact/par

could someone please explain me trhe difference between a compact and a par ?

I'm assuming you're talking about Arri heads. The Arri Compacts are a series of HMI fresnel lamps that use single ended globes and are much smaller in size to the original Arri HMI fresnel range.

so the par is much stronger than a compact, right? is there any rule of thumb that a par is x times stronger than a par?

It depends on which par your comparing to which fresnel. A 1.2k par is going to output more light than a 1.2k fresnel because the lens is going to cut some of the light. The difference is in the spill. The fresnel is going to focus the light more.
