Dolly Suggestion

Hello,

I am hoping someone can suggest a good dolly. I need one that can support an Arri 2c or Arri BL4 as well as a Sony Z1U. I'm assuming if it supports the Arri the Sony will be no problem. It would be prefferable if the operator could ride along as well as an additional seat. Curved track. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Well the Fisher 11 Dolly is a pretty good dolly...

Also Chapman's Pee Wee or Chapman Hybrid are also very good

These are considered the top of line when it comes to dollies.

Both Chapman and Fisher are fitted with boom arms making it possible to do small crane moves

And they're pretty smooth on and off tracks (depending on the operator).

Once you start working with one it's hard to go back.

If you can't afford to rent those than maybe a sturdy doorway dolly or skateboard will do...

However they don't provide the luxury of seats for your operator and his AC

As well as no boom arms or other cool attachments.

You'll just have to scout your locations and check to see what you need to get the shot.

Talk to your Key Grip and your DP and see what they recommend.

Eitherways

Good Luck

Thanks for the advice. Any idea on the purchase price for these dollies?

As far as I know, neither Chapman-Leonard or Fisher sell these dollies - they only lease them. Even if they did sell, the retail would likely be many thousands of dollars.

If you're determined to buy, you may find something like a Focus track and Dolly from Egripment is enough for your purposes, they're certainly a lot cheaper!

Thanks for the info. I realize it will cost thousands. If I can get something for $15,000 it will fit in my budget. Have you heard of Rocket Pod System Matthews 516020 w/ Pdestal and Doorway Dolly? Any comments on this one?

There's nothing worse then a funky dolly.

You can't buy the good ones (Fisher, Chapman, etc.)... so rent or lease.
