NormNelson Posted May 18, 2004 Posted May 18, 2004 I just shot on a stage, greenscreen with talent, everything looked sharp, even looked through the lens and did a slow pull back today and it remains sharp. Footage is soft either because of a bad transfer or perhaps the lens is not optimized anymore. Question is it possible for the image to be sharp in the viewfinder yet slightly out of focus on the film? 7248 Arri SR l6 with 10-100 Zeiss 3.3 shot at 3.3. If you have a perspective email me at echofilm@mindspring.com thanks alot and good shooting Norm Nelson
Mitch Gross Posted May 18, 2004 Posted May 18, 2004 It is possible that your fiberoptic screen depth is off compared to your gate depth, so while it is sharp in the eyepiece it is not to the film. This is an easy bench test at a camera rental/service house.
Premium Member Phil Rhodes Posted May 18, 2004 Premium Member Posted May 18, 2004 Hi, Every time this is mentioned it occurs to me that this simply has to be the most gut-wrenchingly terrifying possibility in the field of motion imaging. A viewfinder that can lie to you!? Aaargh! Phil
Mitch Gross Posted May 19, 2004 Posted May 19, 2004 Again, this is very easy to check during a camera checkout. It takes perhaps two minutes to do on an optical collimator.
