Are Lomo lens marked in mm or inches?

These are Russian lenses, so they use the metric system.

Yes, makes sense. But what are the markings? mm, cm, meters? Somebody told me meters, like in 0,5 meters, 0,1 meters etc. I find it weird if it's that way. Maybe cm or mm, but meters sounds funny. Anybody who has shot with one know?

I don't know of any lens that works in cm or mm. If you think about it, it doesn't make sense, because most of the distances that you'll be working with are metres. Only when you get into close-focus do you go below 1 metre and there a metric scale (0,9m, 0,8m) is good enough.

Is the focus barrel marked in inches, mm or cm?

Thanks.

Hi,

In accord of USSR engineering standard,

the russian lenses have focus barrel marked in meters.

The 1, 3, 5, 7, 10 this marking in meters

0.5, 0.8 this is 0.5m, 0.8 m.

The marking of word " meter " not set.

The special macro lenses with short distance of focusing ( less 1 meter ) can have marking in centimeters.

But, the scale must have word "sm"

The specual edition of russian lenses for delivery to USA had focus barrel marked in inches.

The modern russian lenses Elite Optics can have marked in meters and inches.

If the lens of camera have not standard flange focal distance, the scale of focus barrel will not coincide with real distance of focusing.

What do you mean here?

If you take LOMO ( or any other lens ) serviced, adjusted with standard flange focal distance of optical block ( 61 mm +/- 0.01 mm), you set lens on adjusted camera with standard flange focal distance of lens mount ( 61.00 +/- 0.01 mm ), the marks of distance printed on focus ring will similar of real distances of focused lens between camera and subject.

If the lens or lens mount of camera will have flange focal distance with not standard size( not 61.00 +/- 0.01 mm ),

the real distances focused lens between camera and subject will not coincide with marks on focus ring of lens.

in simple words:

if the the flange depth (or back focus) is correct

the engraved focus marks on the lens should be the same as the distance between the film plane and the object
