Anybody ever use a hard reflector for a long shot into a close-up?

I have a shot with two guys walking and talking for about a hundred feet into a close-up -

day ext./wireless mics.

I'm thinking about using a hard reflector and panning/tilting to soften it as they approach. Any

thoughts?

Thanks.

At a hundred feet the foil side should work great on a sunny day. The silver side might be ok too, it just depends on how overcast it is on the day of the shoot. I would probably avoid gold refectors or the checkerboards unless your going for a warmer look.

Shiny boards are pretty "spotty" and don't feather the edge all that well, even on the soft side.

When I've used reflectors for long walk-and-talks like this I've used several spread out along the length of the walk, overlapping a little to smooth the transition. As they get closer to camera you can smooth the edge of the beam with single or double siders, and blend that gently into a softer bounce that's up close.
