G McMahon
May have something to do with our dollar and incentives. May be that star wars was shot here, may be the night life? A friend of mine worked on it, I can ask them if you want.

A friend of mine worked on it, I can ask them if you want. Australia has amazing incentives right now. They will just cut a check to the studio for something like 3 - 5% of their budget. So if the studio spends 200 million, they will cut a check to the studio for 10 million. Plus labor is much cheaper because they don't have unions. Guest Tim Partridge
Yeah, it was due to budget. Notice how none of the creative heads of department were Australian (apart from hair/make-up). McG apparently jumped ship on the production as director prior because WB refused to let him budget for a brief New York location shoot. SUPERMAN 1-4 and SUPERGIRL were shot principally in England, so Australia is nothing new. Unlike those movies excluding IV however, SUPERMAN RETURNS didn't take advantage of native talent, which would be their loss, especially if there was a sequel chance on the horizon (and there isn't judging by bad box office reports).
