Andy_Alderslade
Barabbas (1962) from the always interesting Richard Fleischer, is the not only a biblical film, but perhaps the only film in history where the main special effect is an act of God, if you like. Fleischer used an actual occuring solar ecplipse, as part of the film. Apparently nobody had any confidence that it would come out, of course it did perfectly and with a cross shaped flair directly over the centre cross of the crusifiction hill. Sometimes special effects can be upstaged by the real thing. Edited August 1, 2006 by Andy_Alderslade
Leo Anthony Vale
Incidentally, if 'Ben Hur: a tale of the Christ' were really a Christian movie, Ben Hur would have found Christ then gave up his vengence against Messala, instead of getting his revenge then finding Christ. But then no chariot race. ---& another problem with 'Ben Hur' is that the Romans did not use galley slaves. Rather paid auxillaries who were awarded Roman citizenship at the end of their twenty some year enlistment. In the 19th century some Mediterranean countries were still using galleys as hard labor prisons. 'Ben Hur' reflects that instead of the Rome of Antiquity. ---LV
