Steve Yeung
I'm editing on a Powerbook G4 and then all of a sudden the laptop will sleep on me (in the middle of RENDERING!!). Has anyone else who's editing on a Powerbook G4 experienced this? Steve
Patrick McGowan
Is it going completely to sleep? That might be an issue. Do you have a system preference to put you in sleep mode after a few minutes? Are you plugged into the AC adapter while you run your power hungry program? If you are not plugged in, and you are in the battery saving mode, the screen will dim and sometimes sleep. My powerbook starts to drift off to sleep a few minutes after it leaves the plug. Powerbook batteries are SHIIIIT.
Matt Workman
You are probably aware of the new PowerBook recalls on the batteries. My G5 actually started to go to sleep during mid render, even with the power options disabling sleeping. My solution was to bring in a room fan and blast it into the front of the computer. It works...so I'm assuming it was a heating issue. This is MOST likely the case, especially with laptops. I have Apple Care so I'm going to have them give it a checkup. I would recommend the same for your laptop. In the meantime try keeping the laptop very cool when rendering. You don't have a grill to put a fan on like the G5 but you can probably find something.
