Canon 814XL-S Gate

I have a Canon 814XL-S and I'm considering doing some modification to the gate to make it Max8 or SuperDuper8 widescreen width on my own.

What I'm wondering is the following:

If I pull the gate out of a junked camera that's in the same family as the 814 XL-S (514XL/XL-S, 310XL/XL-S, etc.), will it be exactly the same dimensionally (height, width, thickness, etc.) and otherwise as the gate in my 814XL-S? I want to find out before doing any modifications and would like to use a gate from a different camera to practice on in case I screw up. Also, if I had two gates, it would be nice to be able to switch between a widescreen gate and a normal gate if everything turns out good.

Or, does anyone know where I can find a spare gate for my 814XL-S?

Thanks in advance.

Interesting strategy. Might be worth asking the question on Filmshooting.com

These are all excellent questions and an intelligently designed plan.
