Giancarlo Fiorentini
I'm looking into dubbing my DVCPRO50 footage to DVCAM for capturing purposes in order to bypass a rental of a DVCPRO50 deck. Does anyone know what kind of image degradation could result from this, if any?

Does anyone know what kind of image degradation could result from this, if any? You would be losing half the color information (DV50 to DV25), so all the rich colors are lost... I guess it's all a matter of quality vs. budget. One of the main reasons to be shooting with the SDX900 is the gorgeous footage you get from that camera... otherwise you might as well have been shooting DVCAM all along. Premium Member John Ealer Posted October 27, 2006 Premium Member Share Posted October 27, 2006 i completely agree if that is the case. thank you I personally wouldn't do it unless for off-line only. DV50 and DV25 are both 8-bit, so you're not losing any color precision, you won't have any fewer colors to work with per se. You do lose resolution in the color difference channels since DV50 is 4:2:2 and DV25 is 4:1:1 of course, and that's where you'll see the difference.
