  1. If you haven't set your capture settings in FCP to DV NTSC from DV50, then it won't capture properly when capturing the DV25 footage. You can do this under the Audio/Video Settings up in the menu bar under Final Cut Pro, or you can access them from the Log and Capture window by selecting the Capture Settings tab in the upper right.
  2. You would be losing half the color information (DV50 to DV25), so all the rich colors are lost... I guess it's all a matter of quality vs. budget. One of the main reasons to be shooting with the SDX900 is the gorgeous footage you get from that camera... otherwise you might as well have been shooting DVCAM all along. IMHO
  3. I know the Sony DSR-25 also plays back large DVCPRO25 recorded tapes as well. I'm thinking any Sony DVCAM deck that can accept the larger cassettes will play the larger DVCPRO tapes, as long as it's been recorded in 25 and not 50 mode. The medium DVCPRO cassettes are the only size accepted by the SDX900 and I the Sony DSR-25 deck won't load it. So unless you have a DVDPRO feeder deck the like the Panasonic AJ-SD93, this won't mean a whole lot.
  4. My understanding is that if you're final destination is only for a film out or DVD out thru a progressive scan deck, you can gain benefit from the added vertical information in the resolution of the image, but if it has to be converted into NTSC (in other words, to a tape-based format), with the lower resolution of 525 scan lines, the extra verftical resolution causes unwanted aliasing and jitter. In that instance you would want to set v. resolution to interlace.
  5. I'd be interested in finding out more about this Apple product, Thanks Bryan! rod
  6. I know that if you're primarily editing in non-linear (like Final Cut Pro) and using Firewire, the smaller 93 has Firewire out and is a great feeder deck. The larger 930 has more options for output, and more functions, but you'll have to pay a grand or more for the optional Firewire output card. So it depends on the editing environment. You can find more info on the Panasonic website.
