Richardson Leao
Hi, I had some 1R reg 16mm negs with some broken perfs (not many). If I send it to be telecined, would it cause major problems? Cheers
Sam Wells
With a modern telecine such as the Spirit there would be no transport issues as there is no mechanical registration... but they use the perf edge to electronically register the image -- I don't know if you'd have a problem if the tear is perf edge to film edge. Call the post house. You may have to just try it. -Sam
Allen Achterberg
Was it processed with the Borken Perfs? I'd personally have them repaired to begin with before have them transfered. All The Best Allen Achterberg

All The Best Allen Achterberg I agree- I would be nervous of the damaged perfs breaking in transfer and getting caught in an area where they could scratch some footage. Sam Wells
I would call the post house, tape repairs on the perfs could possibly cause more problems than the broken perfs themselves. Obviously anything in danger of tearing while winding needs to be dealt with, but the telecine (Spirit etc) is quite gentle on film, more so than any printer. Knowing where the tears are you can go slowly there to see. -Sam
