Panny has a new camera out called the AJ-HPX2100.

For the most part this camera is the equivalent of the HDX900 but recording to P2 cards instead of tape. The price point will be something similar, in the neighborhood of $25-$30K.

Yes, it stands to reason that there would be a P2 version of the HDX, just as the SPX800 is to the SDX900.

 

I also notice that the HPX will record standard def as well as HD (which the HVX also can do), something that is missing from the HDX900. The HDX/HPX are more like "Varicam lite," and very attractive cameras. Even minus the variable frame rates of Varicam, you can still record 60P (@720) if you want to overcrank.

It's a 2/3" CCD so I would be sure that it will be a B4 lens mount.

 

How realistic is the P2 workflow? I shot some 3D steadicam for Coca Cola at the World Cup with 2 HVX200's and we had problems with the amount of storage P2 offered and the time that footage took to download.

 

Anyone have experience of using P2 more frequently?

 

I was about to buy a HDX900 to satisfy my corporate clients, is it worth the wait?

I used it yesterday to run some lens tests on a TV commercial shoot (they were already paid for and it wasn't obstrusive, so no one minded). Workflow, at least for the tasks of shooting and reloading, is similar to 35mm, you just have to make sure that you have enough cards to keep a cycle of having a fresh card, while unloading used cards. I would definitely not shoot a documentary, or a Wong Kar Wai-style feature (long takes, almost unscripted action) with it unless I had a certain number of P2 cards available.
