J5ONFIELD
Hi, I just bought a digital camera and I want to start production on a video project. The mic on the camera just isn't cutting it. I need a mic to catch long distance conversation and noise (journalism from a distance). Sound quality just has to be understandable (not A movie quality)(vhs quality is fine). Of course money is a concern there is so many other things to buy. Here are a few that I was looking at................. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/search...12249/src=01340 http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller...list&sku=238826 http://store.yahoo.com/surpluscctv/shotgunmic.html Amp on it? Does it really work? [source] http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=shotgu...F-8&sa=N&tab=wf (budget $60-$150) Please Help?

J5ONFIELD
1. No more than 100 yards. 2. Does a shotgun mic go threw glass? 3. I'm sure there will be a time when I need to spy in public areas to get my footage. 4. This will be on the move journalism, no time to set up anything. 5. I also need it to work well med-short range for short film future projects. 6. What would a celebrity reporter use to catch conversation in public areas. I would like to know as much info as possible before I buy. Thanks, this site and people are great.............. Jason, :D
Marc_Abernathy
you can use some "Big Earz" (parabolic Mic's or "parabs") for long distance sound. you see these all the time on the sidelines at football games. you can also set up a wireless lav Mic and X-miter at the location you plan to shoot at. just hide it in some shrubbery or in a tree branch, etc. experiment. unless they are shouting behind the glass it will be nearly impossible to get any good sound thru glass.. in regards to getting a reporter to get sound, they can use a handheld Mic or if you want undercover recording, give her a lav and stick it in her hair if it can be covered up well. or run it thru a coat, shirt... etc... again, experiment and make sure you have no clothes noise rubbing against the Mic or the audio will be ruined. also, when getting surveillance recording, make sure you stay legal... ;) good luck...
