Marc Cortes
I own 2 Canon Scoopic like new (M & MS) and shot several short films at 24 i/s or 25 i/s. The results are always great ; the lens is amazing, the picture has a nice vintage look. I notice just a little default ; there's always a small "flickering" on the footages after the TC. It's very effective when i watch the rushes on a computer screen. Is it a problem of alimentation (even if the batteries are new), of fixity (...the pressure plate), or the shutter/mirror ?... Does anyone know if i can fix it easily (i can't synch these cameras ; that's to expensive). Or is it just the limit of that wonderfull cam ? Thanks for your help Marc
Premium Member Bernie O'Doherty Posted April 18, 2007 Premium Member Share Posted April 18, 2007 Hi, Marc, Some 16mm cameras can jump out of timing, but the Scoopic never does. It's too well geared down. I suspect that the problem is in the transfer because you should have no flickering with a good transfer (also, since you're getting the same problem with both cameras). Cheers, Bernie
Marc Cortes
well, I don't think because it's always a professional transfer and when i use my scoopic as a B camera there's no flickering with the A camera (Arri, aaton..)
Premium Member Bernie O'Doherty Posted April 18, 2007 Premium Member Share Posted April 18, 2007 Then it's a speed thing. The other cameras you use, Aaton etc are crystal speed. The Scoopic is not. The slight non-sync speed variation is transferring as a slightly different framerate/exposure, and ending up as a slight flicker.
Marc Cortes
So, there's no other solution than synch it... which is quiet expensive. Thanks for your help
kevin jackman
sync conversion is quite cheap at about 500usd. but im not sure thats the problem
Patrick Cooper
Oh damn! Does that mean that I could potentially get flicker when transferring footage shot with my K3 - even though I never get flicker when I project the same footage?
Zachary Vex
If you're not getting flicker when you project your non-sync footage, the flicker is not on the film. It should transfer perfectly, but whether or not it will sync to sound is another issue.
Patrick Cooper
Synch sound is not an issue in my case! I just plan to have accompanying music.
