Examples of great Super 16mm cinematography that *did not* have a DI

"Ballad of Gregorio Cortez" (DP Reynaldo Villalobos)

"Leaving Las Vegas" (DP Declan Quinn)

"Pi" (DP Matthew Libatique)

 

Trouble is, if you're trying to judge whether they looked good in spite of an optical blow-up rather than a D.I., you'd have to see how the 35mm release prints looked, not try and judge them on DVD.
