Delorme Jean-Marie
Hi all It's now 3 years i'm posting on this fantastic site as an AC I filmed this month my fisrt job as a cinematographer. it was 2 commercials in Algeria, only exterior day (sea shore, a corn field, a mountain river and the sand dunes of the sahara) one film is for a mobile phone operator and the second one for a soda. for both films i used an arri III with primos (10, 17,5 27 35 50 75 and 100macro) Kodak stock 5201 and 5205 and a polirizer almost all the time. we did the DI with a Davinci 2K in Paris. I also used a Jimmy jib crane 30ft with a 3D head (with a french grip) The director was also french but i met him on the set. We had a total of 10 days filming and travelling with 2 weather days!!. As soon as i get them i'll sent you a link to the spots. they should be on air now. that was a big step for me and i'm happy to share this moment with you, you'v been verry helpful at every step. thanks again

Delorme Jean-Marie
yes thanks, Algeria is a brand new country for filming it has incredible locations such as sahara sand dunes, mountain, green fields and sea shore like the riviera in the 30's and great people too (and good food and wine) ;)

Premium Member Satsuki Murashige Posted May 31, 2007 Premium Member Share Posted May 31, 2007 Wow, congratulations! Those locations look incredible. I'm surprised that this is your first DP job since you clearly have a lot of industry experience. Was is difficult to transition mentally from AC to DP on your first day on set (now thinking mainly about lighting and how to orchestrate the crew)? Did you operate the camera as well? Please post a link to spots when you can, I'd like to check them out.
Delorme Jean-Marie
hi i was camera assistant for 10 years on major productions it's now 2 years i'm filming shorts so this was the first time a producer would trust in me. the production is a leader in algeria. now i'm in my learning process of managing a crew and a director i'm not familiar with in the verry special context of a commercial . the transition wasn't that hard as i had to load mags ! to fasten the process and bcause the camera assistant didn't had the level required, as well as most of the local crew. i was only safe on the grip side because he came with me. i operate the camera. the first film was 100% on crane the second film was both hand held (with an easy rig) and on crane. a last setup

Delorme Jean-Marie
hi and thank you max but forget about great budget in north africa but for this region it was a big one. first film was 4 days filming in 3 different locations and we had a weather day (it ran in the sahara!!!!!!) plus 3 days travelling around the country. second film was shot in 1 day and we also had a weather day on this one total budget for the tow films was around 300.000? Matthew Buick
Brilliant work! And what a cool first step on the DP ladder. Mine were shot in Paris, and are certainly much less glamorous. They're off in a Jiffy Pack to Todd AO tomorrow. :P
