Looking for cheap 1000 Watt fixture

Recommended Posts

I am looking for a cheap fixture that will take 1000 Watt Tungsten Globes the double ended style. I'm thinking a work light or security light fixture. I see lots of 1000 Watt work lights but they say Halogen. I am trying to make a cheap soft light and because they will be mounted in a frame durability isn?t really an issue cost is.

Bob -

I thought all of the double-ended 1Kw lamps were tungsten-halogen (aka quartz-halogen). By the time they get to that power level, the life span of a standard tungsten lamp would be super short. So I think the Halogen work lights are what you are looking for.

It's also possible that I'm confused :)

For such a fixture I'd go for 2 x 500w. Could be made switchable for half power and no CT shift, bulbs last longer and an outage still leaves you with useful light. Worklights and replacement bulbs in 500 watts are very widely available, 1000 is a bit scarce (around here - Aus). All the linear tubes with R7 connection are tungsten-halogen.
