Beam angle for underwater

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I'm shooting an underwater 'mermaid' sequence soon. Planning to light using 2.5K HMI's from an angle outside a 5m deep pool. The backround will be blacked out, and I will flag the lightspill on it hoping to render the background as a black & empty void. Any pointers regarding HMI beam angles for effective penetration into the water? Im trying to achieve something like the atached frame..

Thanx

Hi, I did something like this before in a Navy Divers pool where they do scuba diving training. if i remember correctly the pool was of similar depth. We used a 2.5k HMI PAR. and punched it right on to the subject scuba diving near the bottom of the pool. The floor of the pool was light blue, so we got a little bit of bounce of the floor of the pool too. We were shooting with a digital Beta (roughly at 250 ASA).
