Does anyone know what the Rome TV Series (HBO) filmed by Alik Sakharov is shot on. I know its in HD but what camera is it shot on.

I havent seen any of this series but i thought i remembered reading an article about it and it was shot on film - could be wrong though. Check theasc website for their back issue featuring the first series.

Film. I don't know if it was an Arri or Panavision show, though.

 

Essentially all original dramas (and some comedy, such as "Entourage" and the upcoming "12 Miles of Bad Road") on HBO are shot on film, just as essentially all dramas on the major networks are shot on film. The situation is different at Showtime, where basically all original programming - especially series - are shot on HD video, with few exceptions.

 

Personally, I much prefer the HBO/network approach. But that's just me.

It was shot on film,35 mmm with 5217 200T for exteriors and 5218 500T for interiors and exteriors nights.Often pushed 1 stop.

The cameras were arricam st, arricam lt and arri 435.

Cooke s4 and angenieux optimo 24-290 were the lenses (and some tele too).
