Critique of Reel

Hi. I recently moved to LA and updated my DP reels. I would love some feedback.

I was looking at your narrative reel, and here are my comments (these are based on personal preferences):

 

Too slow, pick up the pace a bit. Some shots are way too long, especially the first one and the one of the little girl at the train station. I think you should only keep a few seconds of each. That way, you don't show us their backs for 10-15 seconds. Was that shot hand held? Cutting them short might also lose that. A lot of producers and directors like smooth, steady camera movements.

not bad, but could put some different music to it and like Olariu said, pick up the pace a little bit. Only thing i can reaaly pick on is one shot... the shot with the car driving down a long straight road.

 

I don't know whether it was you who choose the angle, or whether maybe the mountain made it difficult to get another shot, but you missed out on a wonderful symetric picture. The perfect shot there would have been with the car and the lane right in the middle of the picture with the lawn and the hedges on the sides. Anyways, as i said, not bad, but try to pick up the pace a little.

I didnt so mch get the experimental reel, but i guess hence the name

 

I did however love the documentary reel spacificly the bikes, LOVED it. Constructed beautifully.

 

Naritive... i felt it was to slow. I think with some more editing it would really hold your attention
