A Little Princess

I just watched A Little Princess on ABC Family. It was shot by Emmanual Lubezky before he was ASC according to the credits but the movie shows his ASC caliber. I just wondered if anyone had any opinions or insites, technical or otherwise, on the filming of this great little movie.

He's my favorite DP. I've met him a couple times and he's extremely polite and friendly. I first took note of him when I saw 'Like Water for Chocolate' and continued to make sure I saw films of his when they came out like the quirky 'Twenty Bucks,''The Harvest,' and cheesy but well shot "Reality Bites.' I've made a point to buy all his films that exist on DVD.

 

Any fans of his should go to the Apple site and watch the tailer for 'Lemony Snickett's a Series of Unfortunate Events.' It echoes 'Little Princess.'

Still a film I watch over and over for inspiration. He's one of my biggest influences.

"Little Princess" was shot on 200T film (5293) flashed 10% with a Panaflasher. He likes to light with powerful tungsten units through large diffusion frames.

That Lemony Snickett looks like Sleepy Hollow all over again meets One From The Heart all over again. Boring "we think we're inventing the wheel" drivel for the Jude Law as Captain Skyrocket generation. And Jim Carrey. Ugh...

 

Lubeski's Walk In The Clouds is absolutely stunning (I think that was him who shot it). Whoever shot that movie sure knew what they were doing, regardless! LOL Exquisite daylight exterior photography.
