Matthew Finlin Posted September 28, 2007 Share Posted September 28, 2007 I recently was granted full access to a small production house in Taiwan to shoot a film I wrote here. Since there is a major communication barrier with the language I want to make sure I go in know exactly what I want. I have access to two Panasonic HVX200's. I want to shoot HD but it is looking like I may have to shoot DV at 24P. I am looking for suggestions to get the most film look possible. I am trying to achieve a shooting style like we saw James Longley do in Iraq in Fragments. Are there any possibilities of attaching lens adapters? How do I avoid choppiness in pans? Tio Poreamo Posted October 5, 2007 Share Posted October 5, 2007 (edited) Hi, As far as I know "Iraq In Fragments" after it was edited, the final master video was transfered to film and maybe back to video again(?). That would definitely result a film look. Also 35mm adapters are great, there are nice plug-ins to create smooth and random graininess in video that can give you film like look. Nattress? About the lens adapter issue, I am doing PR work for a firm named Zacuto in Chicago. They are a <a href="http://www.zacuto.com/">HD Video Camera Rental</a> house and they are in development of a product line called DOF Adapter system which works with the HVX200 and allows you to use Zeiss ZF 35mm F-mount lenses. Not sure of thier release date, but I understand their customer support is excellent and they may be able to ship to your location. This might achieve the style you are looking for. A large part of the film will be shot at night. In Taiwan there are a lot of bright neon lights in the city but we are sure how it's all going to read. Haven't been able to go out and test shoot yet but if anyone has any suggestions for settings that would be most helpful. Again, thank you.
