Any advice on a better shotgun mic. thanks! bye Don't buy any microphone without listening to it under real world conditions. At the very least don't buy a mike without the right to return it. Also, the sad truth is truly professional microphones are very expensive. For any critical recording it may be best to rent good mikes until you can afford to buy one. Many location recording soundpersons rate the Sennheiser MKH-416 as the best available for live dialog recording. It's pretty hard to put an MKH416 kit together for less than $1200-1500 or so.
