Tennent McCabe
I'm very familiar with s8mm camera's but have never used a 16mm before. I just need something that is a fair price and performance. Any ideas? -T

Matt Pacini
"fair price and performance" is so general as to be no help at all in answering the question. For one person, that may mean $900. For someone else, $20K And for performance, you have to state your specific needs. MP
Premium Member Michael Lehnert Posted November 30, 2007 Premium Member Share Posted November 30, 2007 Read through those threads which were just on the second page of this sub-forum: http://www.cinematography.com/forum2004/in...showtopic=26788 http://www.cinematography.com/forum2004/in...showtopic=26836 http://www.cinematography.com/forum2004/in...showtopic=26706 http://www.cinematography.com/forum2004/in...showtopic=26851 To cut it short: Speaking from a Super 8 perspective, if you want a morph between a Panavision Panaflex 16 "Elaine" and a Beaulieu 4008 ZM II, I recommend to go on the quest to track down a Bolex 16 Pro. Great camera, utterly underrated, superior to Arriflex 16 SR-series excl. the Advanced (which isn't too difficult, after all ? oh, I see anger in the eyes of many readers already...). The Arriflex 416 is greatly inspired by several design aspects of it which are still now new to Municams. An Aaton X-series is probably out of your budget, but should be the starting point for a modern 16mm production camera (even the one three decades old L-series qualifies somewhat for that). Furthermore, re. shoulder cameras: Eclair ACL, then Aaton LTR, then Eclair NPR, then Arriflex 16 SR-series. Also consider: Cinema Products CP-16 or GSMO. Furthermore, re. handheld cameras: Arriflex 16 BL, Arriflex 16 St, Bolex H16, Beaulieu R16. Also consider: Bell & Howell.
