Time Lapse Flower

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Im doing a project at the moment where I need a time lapse shot of a flower opening up. Does anyone have any tips on how best to achieve this? I've been told that some flowers are better to use than others. By the way, I live in Ireland, so I don't have access to any funky tropical plants!

Thanks,

Mary.

Hi Mary,

a couple of years ago I helped a fellow DP post process time lapse he had shot of a number of roses. They roses were photographed with a Fuji S2 DSLR over the period of 5-7 days IIRC. He hooked the camera to a laptop to save the files there and have the software trigger the shutter. It worked pretty well after we sorted the initial problems out, most of which were software related.

The tough part is the lighting. We had the rose sitting in a glass house and used several white boards and reflectors to capture more light. It's really beautiful to see the day pass with the sun moving over the sky.

You can see some of it here:

Rosa Deum trailer at this site.

Cheers, Dave
