Geoff Haas
Can anyone help me with these lighting terms/lingo. They may be regional (Midwest), but I'd love to know. SPECIAL BALLYHOO GREASE (GREASER) FUNGE (sounds like FOONJ) Thanks!
Premium Member David Mullen ASC Posted October 20, 2004 Premium Member Share Posted October 20, 2004 Haven't heard of those being used as lighting terms, except for a "special" which means simply what you'd think it does -- i.e. put an additional light onto a specific area, often a small spotlight as opposed to a broad softlight. Premium Member Kevin Zanit Posted October 20, 2004 Premium Member Share Posted October 20, 2004 A special is generally a theater term, when you have a light on the grid that only does one specific thing the entire show (like bring up a prop or something). A ballyhoo is when you take a spotlight (or Xenon) a move it around through the frame (sometimes in figure eights). A greaser refers to a light from an "edge" position that usually skims the actor?s cheek, usually pretty bright over the key. I have never heard of a "Funge" Kevin Zanit
