hennbot
When lighting for Varicam shooting overcranked footage at 60fps do you need to add light to compensate for the frame rate change? Should I light the scene with the camera in the 60fps mode for monitoring purposes? Thanks!

Ollie Bartlett
What would be the necessary compensation for this? Am i right in thinking that because you need to half the shutter speed, ie change 1/60th to 1/120th, you would need to double the light and so overlight by 1 full stop? Mitch Gross
It is actually quite simple as you can see the effect directly on the monitor. Fast frame rate means that each frame is exposed to light for less time and therefore less bright. The difference between 24p and 60p is 1.5 stops. No need to adjust the shutter. Premium Member Chris Keth Posted July 28, 2008 Premium Member Share Posted July 28, 2008 You don't HAVE to adjust the shutter but I find that most people that overcrank the varicam prefer to apply a bit of a shutter change for a bit crisper image.
